La Venta Summer Sunset Social Series Grand Finale

The crystal clear evening of September 8th marked the final event of the Sunset Social Series season at La Venta Inn. Guests were treated to a painting demonstration by local artist, Don Crocker, in partnership with the Palos Verdes Art Center. Live action food stations from, Made by Meg Catering, complemented the summer sunset and sea breezes as guests watched La Venta come to life on canvas. The event was aptly named, Live at La Venta.

Tuba Ghannadi was respected Realtor

The life of Tuba Ghannadi will be celebrated on Monday, September 19 at 4 p.n., at the South Coast Botanical Gardens. The prominent Re/Max Palos Verdes Realtor died August 20 after the Tesla Model 3 she was driving crashed at a high speed into a power pole on Sunnyridge Road, in Rolling Hills Estates. The August 30 accident occurred shortly after 11 a.m. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Two teens killed in drive-by shooting in Florence-Firestone area

LOS ANGELES – Two teens were killed in a drive-by shooting Saturday in the unincorporated Florence-Firestone area bordering South Los Angeles. The shooting in the 1500 block of East 81st Street, near Compton Avenue, was reported around 4:23 p.m., according to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Deputies found two teens in an alley, suffering multiple gunshot wounds. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Bicyclist killed in Mar Vista after being struck by car

 A man was killed overnight after riding his bicycle into oncoming traffic in Mar Vista.The crash occurred around 12:30 a.m. in the area of Centinela and Mitchell avenues, where the vehicle was going southbound on Centinela and the bicyclist was headed north, according to Officer Rosario Cervantes of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section.Paramedics rushed the victim to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Authorities said he was approximately 60 years old.The motorist stayed at the scene and cooperated with police.The name of the victim has not been released at this moment.

“Brush of Giftedness,” an exhibit of art by Heidi Dong is on display at Peninsula Center Library through Oct. 17. The exhibit features Dong’s interpretations of famous artwork. Dong, a young woman with autism, has been a student of visual art and dance for many years and is the illustrator of Elizabeth Michele Cantine’s book, “Brush of Giftedness,” a collection of original poems about well-known artists.
