Hikers Rescued Outside Of Sisters

Two hikers were rescued after weather conditions changed at Camp Lake in the Three Sisters Wilderness Sunday. According to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, at 10:30 a.m., two Bend hikers reported they needed assistance near Pole Creek Trailhead. Deschutes County 911 had received a report from Garmin GPS emergency response and they had received an emergency alert at this location from a Garmin GPS receiver.

A man from California died last Thursday, September 9, when he made an “innocent mistake,” according to a bystander. Steve Allen, of Walnut Creek, attempted to jump across a narrow gap in the Devils Churn on the Oregon Coast, as reported by the Oregon State Police. Witnesses reported the man lost his footing when attempting to leap across the churhn. Oregon City driver dies in crash on Oregon 6

An Oregon City man died Sunday in a single-vehicle crash on Oregon 6 about 15 miles west of Banks, Oregon State Police said. Gene Carlson, 66, was towing a 17-foot boat with his Ford F-150 when his truck drifted off the road into a guardrail, causing it to roll, officials said. It is unclear what caused Carlson’s truck to drift, the Oregon State Police said.

Highway 20 rollover (Sept. 15, 2021)

Oregon State Police troopers work at the scene of a log truck rollover at about 8 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, near milepost 36 on Highway 20. The Oregon State Police reported that the truck, traveling west, was navigating a curve, immediately east of River Bend County Park, when the loaded trailer overturned, causing the tractor to overturn its passenger side, spilling its cargo onto the roadway and the westbound shoulder. The roadway was mostly blocked with vehicles using the eastbound shoulder to navigate around the incident. The truck's driver, 50-year-old Brett St. Clair of Bend, was not injured, OSP said. AA Towing of Albany removed the vehicle.

1926: Young boy injured after biting torpedo

1971: A Forest Grove resident appeared in court for illegally furnishing dangerous drug to a local prisoner. Franklin, four-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Nolan, was injured about the mouth and throat Friday, when an old torpedo, which he had attempted to bite, exploded in his mouth. The boy found the torpedo in the garage near the Nolan home. He is reported to be recovering from the injuries.

Ashland man killed in Baker County motorcycle crash

BAKER CITY, Ore. — Oregon State Police says that an Ashland man died on Monday after crashing on his motorcycle near the northeastern Oregon town of Baker City. State troopers and emergency personnel responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash along Highway 7 southwest of Baker City shortly before 4 p.m. on Monday. The officers found a motorcycle rider, identified as 78-year-old Lawrence Drake of Ashland. He sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Phil Sheridan had been built in 1869, the first of 14 two-masted schooners built by Thomas Petersen in his shipyard at Little River. The vessel was named for the Union general of Civil War fame.
