Alma football not letting past seasons define them

ALMA, Neb. (KSNB) - It is week zero for our area high school football teams, and Alma is gearing up to take on Superior this week. Things haven’t always went the Cardinal’s out on the field, losing games last fall by just a couple points. This year, they are looking to change their ways on the gridiron, finishing each game and giving it their all.

Superior football set for Week 0 matchup with Alma, opting for Class D1

SUPERIOR, Neb. (KSNB) - It is game week for the Superior Wildcats. A Week 0 matchup with Alma looms this Friday and the program is attacking its final practices of fall camp with a heightened intensity. The Wildcats went 4-5 last year and has goals of finishing this year with a winning record and bringing home a district championship. That is the peak since Superior is opting down to Class D1, making them ineligible for the postseason.

Willa Cather home to close for several months for extensive renovation

RED CLOUD, Neb. -- A Nebraska landmark will be closing later this month to accommodate an extensive renovation. The Willa Cather Childhood Home in Red Cloud will close starting on August 15 to facilitate the first comprehensive restoration in over fifty years. This project is made possible through a Save America’s Treasures grant administered by the National Park Service, which is being matched dollar-for-dollar through a private fundraising effort.

Increase of seismic activity in Jewell County, KS

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Scientists with the Kansas Geological Survey are trying to figure out why there’s been an increase in earthquakes near the Nebraska-Kansas border. Senior Scientist Rick Miller said there have been 693 recorded earthquakes in Jewell County, KS since 2013, and of those, 105 have been felt.

United Way starts its annual back to school drive

Earthquake Reported in Nebraska for Second Straight Week

Nuckolls Count Nebraska was rattled Tuesday morning as an earthquake hit the area. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, an earthquake measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale hit just after 7 a.m. centered 9 kilometers – or 5.5 miles – west-southwest of Superior. The tremor occurred at a depth of 5 kilometers – or 3.1 miles. This is the second earthquake that has hit Nuckolls County just this month. On July 17, just before 8 a.m. an earthquake measuring 3.7 on the Richter scale was centered 7 kilometers – or 4.3 miles – southwest of Superior. That tremor also occurred at a depth of 5 kilometers.
