In Rawlins, a dangerous retaining wall that posed a threat to an adjoining property finally has been removed and the property secured. It was nearly a year ago that city council gave Community Development Director Lou Lascano emergency authorization to demolish and remove the wall at 1127 9th Street. Finding a contractor held up the project.

No pumpkins will be harmed in the in 6th Annual Pumpkin Run tomorrow, at least not intentionally. Mira Miller is a board member of the Carbon County Library Foundation which hosts the annual fundraiser. The Tough Pumpkin Obstacle Course is a new addition to the 2K and 5K run, which will be held tomorrow at the Rochelle Ranch Golf Course. First responders launch drone program in Carbon County

You can run, but you can’t hide — at least not from the thermal sensors and night-vision cameras on two drones now in the hands of first responders. Encampment Police Chief Kevin Shue and Carbon County Emergency Management Coordinator Lenny Laymen have been trying to launch a drone program for the last year. It was grounded for a time after federal grant money fell through. At the county commissioners meeting, H.F. Sinclair presented Carbon County with a check for $15,000 that will underwrite the cost of two drones and the accompanying pilot training.

The relatively rare sight of a funnel cloud looming over the Platte Valley was captured in pictures and videos by residents Thursday afternoon. Carbon County Emergency Management Coordinator Lenny Layman issued a statement saying that a Carbon County School District Two rural bus driver reported the ominous looking funnel cloud possibly touched down near Coad Mountain around 3:30 p.m.
