Randolph County briefs: Backstoppers raise $15,913.34 in drive; free kids orthopedic clinic

The Randolph County Backstoppers chapter would like to thank the community for helping to makes its first Boot Drive May 13 a big success. With 11 towns participating, the countywide effort collected $15,913.34. Event organizer Rich Reitz said the total exceeded their expectations and "shows how supportive and generous people really are toward our fire, police and emergency service organizations."

Bomb threat closes Randolph County Courthouse Thursday

CHESTER, Ill. (WJPF) — The Randolph County Courthouse closed to the public Thursday morning due to a bomb threat. Th Randolph County Sheriff’s Office said there is no indication that the threat is legitimate, but every precaution must be made and an Illinois State Police bomb squad will check out the building.

Two arrested on drug charges in Chester

Two Southern Illinois residents were arrested on drug charges Friday, May 6, after a joint investigation by the Randolph County Sheriff's Office and Chester Police Department. According to police, Tracy Jany, 52, of Chester and Craig Whittington, 54, of Willisville were taken into custody Friday following a search of Jany's home on the 700 block of West Oak Street in Chester.
