Ramona man arrested after attacking victim with hammer and knife in Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A Ramona, South Dakota man is behind bars after attacking someone with a hammer and knife Saturday morning. At police briefing on Monday, Capt. Josh Phillips with the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office said deputies with the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office were called to residence in the 6200 block of North Cliff Avenue for a stabbing.

1 person suffers life-threatening injuries in crash near Epiphany

Charges are pending against 38-year-old Paul Waldner, of Canova, who authorities say failed to stop at a stop sign where 244th Street intersects with South Dakota Highway 25. Waldner was driving a 2017 Dodge Ram pickup and was uninjured. The preliminary crash report from the South Dakota Highway Patrol says he was wearing his seat belt.

National Night Out is Tuesday in downtown Madison

There will be two blocks of activities and entertainment in downtown Madison on Tuesday evening. Along with DownTown in MadTown, the annual National Night Out is also being held. National Night Out is held in the 100-block of South Egan Avenue, while DownTown in MadTown is in the 100-block of North Egan. National Night Out is a community-wide effort to heighten awareness and strengthen participation in safety and anti-crime efforts. The event will have inflatables, the DARE train, and other activities and entertainment as well. Both events start at 6:00 on Tuesday night in Madison.

Madison City Commission meeting on Monday

The Madison City Commission is holding its regular weekly meeting Monday. On the agenda for commissioners is the hearing on a permit to occupy right-of-way from Dakota State University for property it owns on North Van Eps Avenue in Madison. Commissioners will also hold the second reading on an ordinance regarding the city’s budget deadline.

Lake County Commission meets Tuesday

The Lake County Commission holds its regular meeting on Tuesday morning. County commissioners are scheduled to hold a public hearing on a temporary special malt beverage license application for Sporty’s of Madison at 9:10 tomorrow morning, followed by an appointment with Belinda Nelson of Community Counseling. The commission will also hear from Auditor Paula Barrick regarding the disposition of surplus funds, and from Buildings and Grounds Superintendent Dave Hare regarding his department’s budget and future projects. Highway Superintendent Nels Nelson is scheduled to meet with the commission to discuss personnel, a striping agreement, and an occupancy for underground construction application.
