Clayton Woman arrested for Possession of Meth

A Clayton woman stands charged with possession of methamphetamine and pedestrian under the influence of alcohol or drugs. On June 14, a deputy of the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to an address on Alexander Lane off Black Rock Mountain Parkway in reference to a dispute. The deputy met with a woman, 42-year-old Tina Louise Walkingstick of Clayton. She admitted to causing the dispute and that she had been drinking. She was arrested and a search of her belongings uncovered a bag of suspected methamphetamine. She was transported to the Rabun County Detention Center for booking.

Hazardous Weather Outlook for Rabun County

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Piedmont North Carolina, western North Carolina, Upstate South Carolina, and northeast Georgia, including Rabun County. A tropical depression or its remnants is expected to track over or near the area late this weekend. Forecast confidence is low regarding the eventual track and intensity of this system, and associated impacts for our area. Nevertheless, the potential exists for heavy rainfall and possibly localized flooding Sunday into early Monday.

Tiger Woman arrested on Warrant

While dealing with a case, a Tiger woman was arrested on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court. A deputy of the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office arrested 43-year-old Misty Diane Hooper of Tiger on the warrant and transported her to the Rabun County Detention Center for booking.

Two Recent Wrecks in Rabun County

Deputies of the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office worked two recent wrecks in the county. On June 9, at 10:05pm, the driver of a 1992 Toyota Camry left the roadway, overcorrected, went off the roadway again, and struck a tree. No one was injured in the single-vehicle collision on Kelly’s Creek Road. On June 13, at 3:50pm, the driver of a 2000 Chevrolet Tracker rear-ended a 2005 Chevrolet Corvette on Georgia 15 at its intersection with Webb Road. One person was taken to the emergency room for treatment of injuries sustained in the two-vehicle collision.

Clayton Woman arrested on Drug Charges

A Clayton woman stands charged with possession of a schedule II controlled substance and possession and use of drug-related objects. On June 10, an investigator with the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office opened a case into drug activity in the county. As a result, 44-year-old Jennifer Jean Jones was arrested on Best Inn Lane in Dillard and found to be in possession of a clear crystal-like substance suspected to be methamphetamine.

Three Recent Wrecks in Rabun County

Deputies of the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office worked three recent wrecks in the county. On June 9, at 12:32am the driver of a 2003 Subaru Outback lost control while negotiating a curve on Highway 76 East near Mize Lane, ran off the roadway, struck a road sign, and then struck a tree. The driver was transported to Mountain Lakes Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the single-vehicle collision. At 10:20am on June 11, a 1995 Isuzu Rodeo struck a 2014 Chevrolet Sonic in the rear as it was slowing down to yield for blue lights on Highway 76 West near Charlie Mountain Road. No one was injured in the two-vehicle collision. On June 11, at 11:30pm the driver of a 2010 Nissan Murano did not see the sharp curve in the road on Highway 197 near North Laurel Lodge Road causing her to leave the roadway and hit a fence post, large rock, and a tree. No one was injured in the single-vehicle collision.

The Georgia Department of Public Health reports 2 new cases of COVID-19 in the last two weeks in Rabun County with 1,574 residents testing positive and 41 residents dying from the virus since the beginning of the global pandemic. In neighboring counties, Habersham County lists 7 new cases in the last two weeks with 4,691 total cases and 154 deaths, White County reports 9 new cases in the last two weeks with 3,015 total cases and 68 fatalities, and Towns County has had 7 new cases in the last two weeks with 1,132 total cases and 46 deaths. According to the Georgia Department of Public Health, there have been a total of 899,596 positive cases of the virus across the state, of those, 64,388 have been hospitalized and the total death count due to complications of the virus has now risen to 18,300.

Hazardous Weather Outlook for Rabun County

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Piedmont North Carolina, western North Carolina, Upstate South Carolina, and northeast Georgia, including Rabun County. Scattered thunderstorms will develop across the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia Monday, June 14, afternoon and evening. The thunderstorms will develop earliest along and near the Blue Ridge Mountains by midday, then move out over the adjacent foothills, and finally strengthen over the Piedmont by late day. Cloud-to-ground lightning, torrential rainfall, and very gusty winds will be possible with any of these thunderstorms. A few storms will become severe, with damaging wind gusts likely, especially over the western Piedmont of North Carolina and the eastern Upstate of South Carolina late this afternoon.

Suspect drowns after running from traffic stop, Georgia deputies say

RABUN COUNTY, Ga. — Authorities in north Georgia said a person drowned after running from a traffic stop. The Rabun County sheriff’s office said they were called to assist the Georgia State Patrol with a traffic stop in Tallulah Falls on Monday. When deputies were on their way, one of the people involved in the traffic stop ran off and went into the river, authorities said.

Investigation of Drug Activity leads to arrest of Clayton Man

On June 9, an investigator with the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation into drug activity in the county. The investigation led to an address on Merry Dale Lane and the arrest of 45-year-old Micheal Lonny Young of Clayton. He was booked into the Rabun County Detention Center for possession of a schedule I controlled substance, possession of a schedule II controlled substance, possession and use of drug-related objects, and tampering with evidence. The investigation found him with a clear crystal-like substance suspected to be methamphetamine and a brown substance suspected to be heroin.
