Renting a home or a lake house on Cedar Creek Lake is a great way to spend a weekend away, together with family without a super far drive. At only 1-1.5 hours from the Dallas/Plano area, it’s an easy drive for a long weekend. You can take a few routes, via US-75, I-635 or US-80 to the I-175. The drive was a piece of cake.

Jury acquits man of murder charges in fatal Wichita shooting

A Sedgwick County jury has acquitted a Texas man of first degree murder charges in a fatal shooting that happened in Wichita. 27-year-old Maurice Hall of Garland, Texas was charged in a fatal shooting that happened in October, 2020 at the Stryker Sports Complex near K-96 and Greenwich Road. Police said 31-year-old Marquell Nolen of Wichita was shot and killed during an argument behind the bleachers during a youth football game. Hall was arrested later on the basis of a bright yellow jumpsuit he was wearing and a cup he had dropped at the scene.

Rockwall lowers city flags to honor former mayor

The City of Rockwall flag at Rockwall City Hall has been lowered to half-staff today as a sign of respect for the recent passing of former Mayor Dr. Frank Miller. He moved to Rockwall in 1965 and began his orthodontic practice in the heart of downtown. In addition to his lifelong goal of “helping people smile,” Dr. Miller was dedicated to the growth and development of the community. He served as a Rockwall City Councilmember and then three terms as Mayor from 1987-1993. He was also a Charter Chairman of the Rockwall County YMCA, Vice President of Rockwall Rotary, as well as an active member of the Rockwall Chamber of Commerce and Rockwall Economic Development Corporation.

Ohio CBP seizes nearly $7M worth of fake jewelry, watches in Cincinnati

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Cincinnati seized three shipments of phony jewelry and watches worth nearly $7 million last Friday and Saturday. CBP says the first shipment arrived from Hong Kong on Friday and was destined for a private residence in Richmond, Virginia. The package held 275 assorted Cartier Love Bracelets with a declared value of $319. Had they been genuine, they would have fetched a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of around $3.27 million.

The exemption applies to clothing and school supplies costing less than $100. Today is the first day of the annual sales tax holiday for Texans purchasing clothing and school supplies. The sales tax holiday continues through Sunday. Eligible items include backpacks, clothing including shoes, and approved school supplies. Each item must be sold for less than $100.
