A celebrated New York City sommelier has been charged and arrested on two felony accounts of arson for allegedly setting outdoor dining sheds ablaze.Ganzer, who was once named a Food & Wine Magazine “sommelier of the year,” is a partner at the popular La Compagnie des Vins Surnaturels wine bar on the Lower East Side, making his misdeeds all the more unsettling: Surveillance footage captured the Ganzer lighting at least two other Downtown restaurants’ sidewalk dining structures on fire this past year. The city’s Parent-Teacher Associations could hit the jackpot — if they can get people jabbed. The Department of Education is pushing PTAs and Parent Associations to use the new “vaccine referral bonus” program, which pays out $100 to the groups for each person who cites them while getting vaccinated at a city-run site.

Somewhere along the line Kevin Durant passed Carmelo Anthony for the most points in Men’s basketball Olympics…USA history. Team USA is playing more physical and locking in on defense. That type of focus is needed to win it all. This entire experience is great for Kevin Durant, next season the Brooklyn Nets will have the their backs against the wall. Winning at the highest level will do nothing but good for Brooklyn.

We have entered my favorite season: the season of gorging on tomatoes. I grow both hybrid and heirloom tomatoes at Catbird Cottage, and once the first fruits have ripened, after a gleeful harvest, there are BLT sandwiches and numerous batches of sauce and confit that follow. I clear the calendar to bottle my surplus, preserving the season so I can enjoy their exceptional flavor year-round.

At 15, Brandon Silverstein spent his Saturday nights sneaking into New York City nightclubs. The Tenafly, New Jersey, teen used his fake ID to get under the velvet rope and listen to DJs like Tiesto and Kygo. His goal: meet the talent, get their contact information and hire them to play at his own parties at city clubs and restaurants like Tenjune. They’d attract 800 or so high schoolers willing to pay his $30 cover charge, and by taking a 20% cut of the soda bar, he’d walk away with about $8,000 a night.
