2022 PCSS Teachers of the Year Honored

PUTNAM COUNTY – The Putnam County School System honored the 2022 Teachers of the Year at a luncheon on May 2 during National Teacher Appreciation Week. “The Teacher of the Year luncheon is a wonderful day in the school year as we get to come together to honor and recognize the teachers chosen by their peers at each PCSS school,” said Corby King, Director of Schools. “Education has evolved quickly and even more so over the last two years. Their dedication and passion for education make a difference in their schools and the lives of our students. They are people who impact culture and lend a helping hand to those around them. We are grateful for each of them and congratulate them.”

Putnam 4th Graders Work On Eye Contact And Handshake Skills

Putnam County 4th Graders have spent time during the last weeks of school brushing up on their handshakes and eye contact skills. Capshaw Elementary School Counselor Janna Shope said it comes as part of a system-wide series to help students become more confident in these skills. Shope said that she believes they come less easily to kids as of late.

A Cookeville man has died as the result of a Tuesday night accident at in Putnam County. 61-year-old John Kontour of Cookeville was the passenger of 48-year-old James Romines of Cookeville was traveling in a 1998 Chevrolet Camaro on Thorne Gap Road when his vehicle went on the side of the roadway, striking a large pile of rocks.
