School Resource Officer Coming To Putnam County Schools

Parents of Putnam County students should feel a little more at ease next school year. In the latest newsletter sent out by district leaders, there's mention of a school resource officer being on campus starting in the 2022-23 school year. The school district has an agreement in place with the Village of Granville to provide the officer.

Investigators Seeking Security Camera Footage Regarding Magnolia Burglaries

If you live in Magnolia and have security cameras on your property, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office would like to hear from you. Investigators hope video can help them find who was behind several vehicle burglaries Tuesday into Wednesday in Magnolia. This happened just a few days after a rash of vehicles were broken into and a couple even stolen at Lake Thunderbird in Putnam County.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect until 6 o'clock for northeastern Putnam County and east central Bureau County. The storm is capable of producing hail and 60 mph wind gusts.

Jeep And Lexus Stolen In Lake Thunderbird

Here's another reminder of why you should always lock your vehicles, garages and homes. A Jeep and a Lexus were stolen from Lake Thunderbird over the weekend. Putnam County Sheriff Kevin Doyle says the Jeep has been located around Peoria while the Lexus was found not far from where it was stolen. No charges have been filed in the case.

Pump prices spike nationwide

UNDATED – Gas prices are back up nationwide as crude prices increase, according to the American Automobile Association. The AAA says pump prices will likely face upward pressure as oil prices remain above $105 per barrel. In Illinois, the statewide average for gas per gallon is currently, $4.56, 15 cents more than a week ago. Local area counties are reflecting higher pump prices as well, the most expensive being Putnam County, at $4.55 per gallon. LaSalle County is not far behind, averaging $4.45 cents, and Bureau at $4.40 cents per gallon. Crude prices rose after the European Union announced a proposal to ban Russian oil imports within six months, while refined product imports would be prohibited by the end of 2022. It’s not clear if the plan will be approved as some members of the 27-nation bloc, such as Slovakia, have stated they will seek exemptions because they need more time to find alternatives to Russian oil.

Granville No Longer Providing Police Coverage To It's Neighbor Standard

Responsibilities of the Putnam County Sheriff's Department have grown a bit since the calendar changed to May. Up until the end of April 30th, the Granville Police Department provided coverage to its neighbor Standard. However that coverage ended after failed attempts at a restructured contract according to Granville Village President Jared Baker. He tells WLPO that he's hoping something can be worked out in the future.

Sale Price For Homes In La Salle County Have Jumped Up In 2022

When it comes to home sales, 2022 is off to a strong start across Starved Rock Country. According to figures released by the Illinois REALTORS, 245 homes have gone off the market thru March, one more than at the same point a year ago. The bigger story in La Salle County is the median sales price of a home so far in 2022 is $144,000, a 20 percent jump from last year.

Putnam Woman Facing Drug And Residential Burglary Charges

Hopefully your Easter weekend started off better than Jennifer Luttrell's. The 20-year-old from Putnam turned herself in to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office on Friday. She was wanted on felony warrants for unlawful delivery of a controlled substance and residential burglary. Luttrell is accused of selling fentanyl to an undercover agent back in December in Putnam County.

Tri-County Drug Enforcement Narcotics Team announce arrest on Putnam County Warrant

On Friday, April 15, 2022, Jennifer L. Luttrell, 20, of Putnam, IL turned herself into the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, for a Putnam County arrest warrant, for Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance and Residential Burglary, both Class 1 Felonies. With the help from the Putnam County State’s Attorney, the warrant was issued following an investigation into illegal heroin/fentanyl sales in rural Putnam and Marshall Counties conducted by the Trident Drug Task Force.

The Bureau, Putnam and Marshall County Health Department is looking for your input to help determine health and wellness concerns facing the three counties. You can get involved by first completing a survey available on the health department's website and Facebook page until May 8th. You can also attend one of the community meetings in each county. Community members are invited to participate in one or both of these opportunities.

Gas prices nationwide decrease

CHICAGO – Countries are planning more emergency reserve releases, and the national average price of gas per gallon is trending lower in the U.S. according to the American Automobile Association. Over 30 countries, including Mexico, Japan, Germany, and Canada, announced plans to release 120 million barrels of crude oil from their emergency oil stockpiles. The amount includes a previously announced 60 million barrels of oil from the U.S. It would be the second coordinated release in just over a month in response to spiking oil prices after Russia invaded Ukraine. On Friday President Biden signed legislation blocking Russian oil from being imported into the U.S. Those filling up their vehicles in LaSalle County this past weekend noticed a dip in pump prices, around 20 cents cheaper than two weeks ago now at $4.20 per gallon. In Bureau County, you can expect to pay around $4.27 cents per gallon, and in Putnam County, $4.32 a gallon.

Goats perish in Putnam County Fire

GRANVILLE – A shed fire in Putnam County took the lives of five goats Wednesday. The Granville-Hennepin Fire Protection District were called to North 1100th Ave near Granville around 7:30 AM. A Putnam County Sheriffs Deputy used a Fire Extinguisher to extinguished most of the fire, however four adult goats and one baby goat perished. Authorities say a heat lamp was determined to be the cause of the fire and was either knocked onto straw bedding by the animals inside or the cord was possibly damaged by one of the animals causing the fire.
