Laundromat larcenists caught after stealing quarters in Putnam County

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — Putnam County deputies arrested a pair of thieves Friday afternoon for a break-in at a Crescent City laundromat on Thursday. According to the sheriff's office, Chet White, 36, of Palatka, and William Shortsleeves, 40, of Satsuma, broke into the laundromat Thursday night, breaking the locks on the vacuums to gain access to an undisclosed amount of quarters.

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol says a 24-year-old female and a 33-year-old female died Saturday evening in a head-on crash. FHP says the crash happened on State Road 26 near Swan Lake Drive. They say a car crossed a double yellow line in a no passing zone to pass another car. While attempting to pass, the car hit the front of another car traveling in the opposite direction.

A 25-year-old St. Johns County man died Saturday night when a pickup truck struck the motorcycle he was driving. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the man was traveling south on 11th Street approaching Bronson Street in Putnam County at around 8 p.m. The pickup truck, driven by a 58-year-old Palm Coast woman, was traveling north on 11th Street. The pickup truck attempted to turn left onto Bronson Street and collided with the left side of the motorcycle.
