Providence man arrested on gun charge

PROVIDENCE — A Providence man was arrested for illegal possession of a gun after fleeing on foot from police Friday night on the south side of the city. Jaevon Sampson, 25, ran from patrol officers after they pulled over the car he was riding in at about 11:40 p.m., the police said. When he was caught shortly afterward on Prairie Avenue, a loaded 9 mm handgun was found in his sweatshirt pocket.

Family Wants Accused Driver Charged With Murder

Aramis Segura is accused of hitting teenager Olivia Passaretti’s car, causing her death. Friends and family of Olivia Passaretti held a rally outside the state Attorney General’s office in Cranston Saturday calling for Aramis Segura, the man charged with causing Olivia’s death early Jan. 1, to be charged with second degree murder. Segura has been charged with driving to endanger and leaving the scene of an accident, death resulting, and is being held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institutions for violating his parole.

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE)- Hundreds of protestors gathered in Cranston on Saturday afternoon, calling for higher charges against the suspect in the Olivia Passaretti case. The Passarretti family and many others gathered outside of the Rhode Island Attorney General’s office, asking him to consider upgrading Aramis Segura’s charges to murder.

NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford police have charged the owner of a North End variety store with illegally selling alcohol and cigarettes without a license. City resident Tomas Xirum, 46, the owner of Botas Vaqueras on Acushnet Avenue, is being charged with maintaining a nuisance business and illegal sale of flavored tobacco, according to police.

BROCKTON, MASS. (WHDH) - A Brockton man is facing criminal charges after a drug raid on Thursday yielded cocaine, fentanyl, and an illegal firearm, authorities said. Gregory Robinson, 26, was arrested on charges including illegal possession of a firearm, defacing a serial number or receiving a firearm with a defaced number, possession to distribute a Class D drug, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a large capacity feeding device, fentanyl trafficking, and cocaine trafficking, according to the Brockton Police Department.

Two Worcester Men Arrested in Webster for Drugs, Warrant

WEBSTER - A traffic stop for illegally attached plates led to the arrest of two Worcester men for outstanding warrants and drugs on Wednesday, January 19. An officer stopped a vehicle for having plates attached to a vehicle that did not match the registration. The driver admitted to knowing the plates were not matching. He had no identification, but provided a name and date of birth.
