JCPenney Plans New Local HQ

Department store retailer JCPenney is moving ahead with its plans for a Plano-located headquarters. This May, JCPenney announced to its employees the plan to move its headquarters back to the Plano location, which it originally built in 1992. The company had moved operations out of the headquarters early in 2020.

Woman injured after vehicle struck by train

WYLIE, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – An elderly woman has been hurt after her vehicle was hit by a train in Wylie Tuesday evening.Fire crews got the call just before 7 p.m. near the corner of Ballard Street and Ann Drive.Officials say the woman became disoriented and wound up on the tracks, and then her SUV was hit by the Kansas City Southern train.She was taken to Medical Center of Plano with some facial injuries and a left-arm injury, according to Wylie Fire Chief Brandon Blythe.There was no damage to the train, and crews worked to clear the track. Traffic in the area was snarled for a time.

Local Officer Takes Own Life

The Garland Police Department (GPD) is in mourning as one of its own has died, according to a message tweeted on the department’s Twitter page. On Saturday, December 3, it was confirmed by Garland Police that Lieutenant Chris Carker, a 16-year veteran of the GPD, took his own life.

Allen Business Briefs: Two new developments approved

The Allen City Council approved two new entertainment attractions scheduled to open in 2023 at The Farm in Allen. Chicken N Pickle is a unique indoor/outdoor entertainment complex including a casual, chef-driven restaurant and sports bar, pickleball courts and a variety of yard games. Kansas City-based Chicken N Pickle currently has six locations throughout the United States, with six more planned for 2023. High 5 is an upscale Austin-based experiential entertainment chain offering bowling, laser tag, ax throwing, escape rooms and a miniature golf course. This High 5 location will be the first one in North Texas.

Juvenile hit by wanted hit-and-run driver, Frisco police say

FRISCO, Texas — Frisco police have released a photo of a vehicle they say was involved in a hit-and-run with a juvenile in November. The department says a juvenile was struck by a vehicle on Coit Road in front of Rock Hill High School. It happened around 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18.

McKinney ISD outlines next steps for superintendent search

McKinney ISD is looking to choose a new superintendent by late February, according to the district's board president. After current McKinney ISD Superintendent Dr. Rick McDaniel announced his retirement on Dec. 2, the district is looking ahead to a selection process for its new leader.

Anna skate park construction to begin this spring

Work is expected to begin on Anna’s new skate park at Slayter Creek Park by late March or early April. The news comes after the City Council recently approved a construction agreement with SPA Skate parks. That company has overseen the construction of many similar projects across the state.

H-E-B launches brand shop at Frisco location

H-E-B launched an official brand shop Dec. 6 at its store in Frisco. (Colby Farr/Community Impact Newspaper) Starting Dec. 6, customers can find exclusive H-E-B-branded merchandise at the Frisco store, located at 4800 Main St. The H-E-B Brand Shop, which will be located on branded fixtures in store aisles, will feature about 60 different H-E-B-themed items, including T-shirts, socks, coffee mugs and shoes, according to a news release. Items from the brand shop will be available for purchase in the store, or via curbside or home delivery. H-E-B launched the brand shop in Kerrville last month in honor of the company’s 117th anniversary and plans to open more shops across the state. 469-473-4419.

Boys’ basketball tames the lions on the road

Boys’ basketball faced off against McKinney High School on Tuesday, and in a close finish, the Redhawks took the win 61-59. “We played great against a really good team, we were struggling with turnovers in the first half, but Cobe Coleman kept us in with an incredible first half,” assistant coach Ben Manning said. “It went wire to wire down to the end, the boys fought and they were able to adapt to handle a team like McKinney to come out with the win.”
