Jury selection to start in Preston murder trial with motorcycle gang ties

Jury selection will start next month in the trial of a man charged with shooting and killing a Preston man in 2019. Francis L. Giannelli, 28, of Glastonbury is charged with murder in the Oct. 26, 2019 shooting death of 35-year-old Robert Thompson of Preston. In July, Giannelli rejected an offer to serve 35 years in prison, opting for a jury trial instead.

Groton program will help police locate residents who have wandered off

Groton ― Mary Jo Riley, supervisor at the Thrive 55+ Active Living Center, said she hopes a new program will bring peace of mind to families. Thrive 55+, formerly known as the Groton Senior Center, and the Town of Groton Police Department plan to bring the Project Lifesaver Program to the community to assist first responders find people with cognitive disorders and help them get home safe, if they wander off.

NORWICH — A decision the mayor initially labeled a "budget item" may make a street dangerous, concerned residents say. Back in August, there was an informational presentation on the removal of the barrier that cuts off Vergason Avenue from Business Park Road and Connecticut Avenue, and has been in place since 1986. On Monday, eight neighbors appeared before the City Council opposing the removal of the barrier, although it was not on that night’s agenda.
