McQuiston retires from Park District seat

LEWISBURG — The Preble County Park District announced last week the retirement of PCPD Commissioner Tom McQuiston on May 6. McQuiston has served as commissioner of the Preble County Park District for over 17 years, from 2005 to 2022. According to a press release from the PCPD, he will continue to be involved with the agency as a volunteer.

TIPS FROM PUBLIC LEAD TO ARRESTS OF ALLEGED BURGLARS

(Preble County, OH)--Recently, the Preble County Sheriff’s Department asked for the help of the public in identifying two people who were caught on surveillance video boldly breaking into a Quinn Road home in broad daylight. Now, it’s paid off. Deputies have identified and arrested 33-year-old Katherine Steele and 39-year-old Justin McTeer and charged them with numerous felonies. But, there’s more. McTeer posted bond and, within just minutes from being released from jail, allegedly stole a truck from a gas station in Eaton and crashed into several mailboxes. McTeer then fought with someone who tried to help at the crash scene and was eventually booked back into jail on a robbery charge.

Training available: ‘Ethics of End-of-Life Planning’

PREBLE COUNTY — The Area Agency on Aging reminds the public it will present a 3.0 credit hour continuing education workshop from 9 a.m.-12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24, online via Zoom. The cost is $40 to earn CEUS or $20 to attend without CEUs. This training meets the Ohio CSWMFT Board ethics training requirement. Advance registration is requested by May 20.

Auditor releases financial report for April

EATON — During a Preble County Commission meeting last week, Preble County Auditor Lavon Wright presented her monthly financial report for April. According to Wright, during the month of April, Preble County’s General Fund receipts totaled $1,204,089.80. Sales tax revenue for April totaled $573,118.50 from February 2022 sales. Local Taxation came in at $251,452.68, Charges for Services at $127,192.62, Interest at $32,971.38 and Fines & Forfeitures at $6,112.67. The Casino Tax came in at $146,778.28.

PCHS hosting cruise-in

EATON — On Sunday May 22, the Preble County Historical Society is hosting its 2nd Annual Classic Car Cruise-In from 3-6 p.m. Parking begins at 2 p.m. Classic cars, trucks and motorcycles are all invited to join in. This is a free event and open to the public. The PCHS will also be celebrating the Washington Motor Car’s 100th Anniversary with a cake cutting at 4 p.m. There will be a food truck and prizes. The event will take place at the PCHS, located at 7693 Swartsel Road, Eaton, off Ohio 122. The car featured here is owned by Joe Schmidt from Morning Sun, and was featured at the cruise-in last year, according to organizers.

Eaton sweeps county track titles

NEW PARIS — Eaton’s boys and girls track teams claimed county titles during the Preble County Meet on Tuesday, April 26 at National Trail High School. The Eagles girls team won 12 of 17 events to run away from the five-team field with 158 points. National Trail, who won four events, finished second with 95 points. Preble Shawnee was third with 34 points. Twin Valley South was fourth with 33 and Tri-County North was fifth with 23.
