National Weather Service Says Tornado Touched Down in the Catskills

New York isn't often associated with tornadoes. However, the National Weather Service says three separate tornadoes have down in parts of the state over the past week. The NWS says a tornado struck the town of Wayland in Steuben County the evening of September 19. NBC says a second weak tornado struck late Sunday, affecting the hamlet of Mattituck on Long Island.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced construction will start this fall on a project to improve public facilities adjacent to the swim area at Stony Brook State Park in Dansville. Happy Tuesday! We have dealt with showers the last two days and even some thunderstorms. Today is a continuation of the same. It is all with this area of low pressure to the north. The counterclockwise circulation around the area of low pressure is ushering in moisture from the Great Lakes. As a result, scattered showers once again develop today and an isolated thunderstorm is possible in the afternoon. Overnight, a cold front moves through keeping showers in the forecast. This cold front drops our temperatures and changes our wind direction. We go from the southwest today to the northwest tomorrow and it will be breezy.

Hornell’s New Common Council Member

HORNELL, NY – Hornell has a new 6th ward alderwoman. Her name is Lita Brown. Brown was sworn in last night by Judge David Coddington. Lita Brown is a Republican, who is taking over for Jessica Cleveland. Cleveland has been deputy mayor, but as the deputy mayor position is now a full time job, Cleveland will be at Hornell city hall doing that work, 40 hours a week now.
