Saturday morning shooting startles residents

POUGHKEEPSIE – City of Poughkeepsie police were dispatched to Muldowney Circle Saturday morning for reports of “shots fired”. The incident occurred around 9:00 a.m. Residents of the Corlies Manor apartment complex told Mid Hudson News that they heard four or five shots ring out. One witness looked out the window to see a car speeding east on Muldowney and turn right to leave out of the complex moments after the gunfire.

Brescia abruptly resigns as Orange County Legislature chairman but plans to keep his seat

Orange County Legislature Chairman Steve Brescia abruptly resigned his leadership post Friday with three months to go in what was expected to be his final year as chairman. The Montgomery Republican submitted a two-sentence resignation letter that gave no explanation and said he would keep his seat on the 21-member Legislature. Katie Bonelli, the Blooming Grove Republican who leads the 15-member majority caucus, will replace Brescia as chairman until the end of the year.

Bus tours of historic Brockport

On September 8 and 14, a group of residents from the Highlands at Pittsford toured Brockport’s historic village. Sue Savard (at right) and Dan Burns conducted the tours, which highlighted the village’s churches, theater, schools, homes, and early inhabitants. At each stop along the way, the tour guides wove together seldom-heard snippets of history from the building of the Erie Canal to the expansion of the college. No visit to Brockport would be complete without a tour of the Morgan Manning house conducted by Rozenn Bailleul-LeSuer and Gordon Fox. Adding to the experience, participants enjoyed Welcome to Brockport cookies made by Margaret Burns. At the end of their visit, participants expressed a new appreciation of Brockport’s history and finished off their tour with lunch at 58 Main BBQ & Brew.

Woodstock’s Little Bear seeks new location

After nearly 50 years at the Bearsville Theater complex, now known as the Bearsville Center, the Little Bear Chinese restaurant will bid farewell. “With much sadness in our hearts, we would like to inform our loyal customers as of September 30, 2021, The Little Bear restaurant will be closing its doors at the current location,” owner MarLee Koo and staff said in a written statement. “The landlord has decided to no longer allow this landmark restaurant to operate on the premises of the Bearsville Center — she has other ideas for the use of this building.”
