Farmersville supports United Farm Workers march

Farm workers supported by the United Farm Workers (UFW) Union are marching to the state capitol in support of Assembly Bill (AB) 2183, California Ag Labor Relations Voting Choice Act, introduced by Assemblyman Mark Stone (D-Santa Cruz). The march began on Aug. 3 in Delano and came through Farmersville on Aug. 7. Mayor Paul Boyer and councilman Greg Gomez joined the march for their walk to Visalia on Aug. 8.

Court ruling may cost Visalia a second Costco

VISALIA – Plans for a second Costco and more homes in Visalia are on hold and may be in jeopardy following a recent court ruling about the city’s land use policies. On July 21, Tulare County Superior Court Judge David Mathias ruled against the city over their decision to forego charging ag land mitigation fees from developers who want to bring farmland into the city for urban development. Under the city’s initial 2030 General Plan, the document guiding the city’s growth, developers, primarily home builders, would have had to pay into a fund the city would use to preserve ag land somewhere else in exchange for allowing other farmland to be developed.

Central Section teams were shaken up as leagues shifted around during the offseason. All of the Visalia teams moved to the East Yosemite League, joining Porterville and Monache. The Tri-County leagues, Kings Canyon and Sequoia, are new for the 2022 season and split up the old Central Sequoia league. Orange Cove and Orosi join the East Sequoia league from the West Sequoia league while the rest of the West Sequoia league will now be a part of the new Northwest Sequoia league.

Just before 2 a.m. Ray Segura, 33, of Bakersfield and Fancy Renee Castro, 30, of Bakersfield were struck by a 17-year-old driver when he failed to stop for the stop sign, hitting them on Highway 155 (Garces Highway) at Melcher Road in Delano, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The expansion project for Schafer Dam at Lake Success has entered its second phase, just months after completing the first phase that began in 2020. The $135 million project includes building a 10-foot tall ogee weir – a low concrete structure that helps control water flow by widening the dam’s spillway – and adds 20,000 acre feet of water storage.

Psalm 14 begins with a very blunt statement: “The fool says in his heart there is no God.” Does that mean that all atheists are intellectually deficient? Absolutely not. Many of them are incredibly brilliant. But when the Bible speaks of being a fool, it’s speaking more about being morally deficient. This is a person who essentially has no place for God in their lives. They don’t want there to be a God because then they might have to change their lifestyle and believe the teachings of the Bible.
