Wildcats’ rally falls short

Body Ardmore got to work early in its effort to spoil the Ponca City Wildcats Homecoming celebration. The visiting Tigers scored on their first play from scrimmage, Running back Evan Smith took the hand off and romped 91 yards for a touchdown to put his team ahead. The Tigers went on to lead 28-6 at the half time, giving every indication that a romp was in the works.

Softball Lady Cats rip Del City

Body DEL CITY -- Pounding out 21 hits, the Ponca City Lady Cats defeated Del City 13-8 Tuesday night in a district softball game. Caitlin Cooper drove in five of the Ponca City runs with a two-run home run and a double. Madelyn Blackstar had five hits in the game, Alex Zimmerschied had four hits, Cooper, Brianna Meyer and Savannah Clark each had three hits and Margaret Blackstar, Adisyn Ivers and Allanah Florez each had one hit. Six of the Lady Cat hits were for extra bases. Cooper had a double to go along with her homer, Zimmerschied had three doubles and Madelyn Blackstar had a double The Lady Cats scored four.

Wildcats muzzled: Ponca Schools adopts mask mandate

Students, employees and visitors at Kay County’s largest school district are now required to wear masks amid a rising number of coronavirus cases among students. The Ponca City Public Schools Board of Education voted unanimously to implement a new mask mandate after a state law banning mandates was temporarily blocked by an Oklahoma County district judge.

Ardmore takes 2-0 record on the road to Ponca City

ARDMORE, Okla (KXII) - The Ardmore Tigers are off to a great start, 2-0 this season, with wins over Ada and Shawnee. This week the Tigers will make the trip up to Ponca City to take on a team that is 1-1. The Tigers have really been mixing it up on offense. 16-year-old Blackwell football player hospitalized with COVID-19, placed on full ventilator

BLACKWELL, Okla. (KFOR) – A 16-year-old Blackwell, Okla., football player is hospitalized with COVID-19 Friday and has been placed on a full ventilator. Levi Barnett tested positive for the virus about two weeks ago and has been hospitalized for just over that amount of time. Barnett is now at OU Children’s Hospital battling COVID-19, double lung pneumonia and strep throat. His mother, Heatherlynn Barnett, said the doctors were forced to put him on a full ventilator Friday night and that it hasn’t been too good. Both she and her fiancé, Frankie Blakely, said they’re just hoping he makes it out.
