3 plead guilty in Sac County burglary spree

SAC CITY, Iowa -- Three people have pleaded guilty to their roles in a string of burglaries in rural Sac County homes. James Becker, 33, of Wall Lake, Iowa, entered an Alford plea Monday in Sac County District Court to two counts of third-degree burglary, plus possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance from a separate case.

Man Accidentally Shot Himself at Storm Lake Residence

The Storm Lake Police Department responded to an accidental shooting this week. At approximately 12:30 on Monday afternoon, the department was called to the 300 block of West 2nd 2nd in Storm Lake on a report that an individual had accidentally shot himself inside of a residence. The man sustained a gunshot would to the hand. He was transported to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center for non life threatening injuries.

Humboldt Man Killed in Early Morning Crash Near Ottosen

–A Humboldt man was killed and two others were injured following a one-vehicle accident early Monday morning near Ottosen. According to the Iowa State Patrol, 27-year-old Christopher Barnes was traveling southbound on County Road P19, 2.5 miles west of Ottosen around 6:40AM. The accident report states that the 2005 Buick LeSabre Barnes’ was driving failed to negotiate a left-hand curve in the roadway and entered the east ditch.

Buena Vista County veteran receives World War Two medals

U.S. Senator Joni Ernst was in Storm Lake Monday to present a set of medals to a Buena Vista County veteran who served in World War Two. Several of Stanley Peterson’s family members were on hand, including his nephew Todd Peterson, who said the presentation is special to Stanley and the entire family. “We wanted him to I just told him last week — he didn’t quite understand what was going on — but he was very excited and was looking forward to today,” Peterson says. Peterson, who is an Alta native, was given the Good Conduct Medal, the World War Two Victory Medal, and the Honorable Service Lapel Button.

Two New Stop Signs Coming To Lake City

The Lake City Council has approved the request by a resident to add a stop sign by Superior and St. Clair Streets. City officials say they were approached a month ago to add the stop signs. The council concluded they would honor the request by putting up two signs on the east and west road, St Clair Street. City officials added they would find a DOT tracking or monitoring system to gauge how bad traffic really is. The city has extra signs, so they will not need to purchase new ones. Indianola Marching Band Places 2nd at Fort Dodge

The Pride of Indianola Marching Band performed twice on Saturday, marching in the Log Cabin Days Parade around the downtown Indianola square, and again at the North Central Marching Invite in Fort Dodge. The band placed 2nd in class 4A, winning four overall awards including Best Color Guard, Best Brass, and Best Marching, while Sam Burns won Best Soloist for his trumpet performance.
