Another Drug Arrest By Polk County Deputies

Polk County Sheriff Scott Sawyer released the following information Thursday concerning another drug areest in the county by deputies. "On Wednesday, May 19, 2021, Deputies with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on Highway 71 between Cove and Hatfield on a white Ford F350. During the stop, it was discovered that the driver of the vehicle, Dante St. Michael age 56 of Waldron, Arkansas, had a suspended driver’s license. Further investigation uncovered methamphetamines, drug paraphernalia, and cash in excess of $25,000.00.

Traffic Stops yield drugs, guns, and stolen truck

On Saturday, May 15, 2021, a Deputy with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office stopped a white Jeep driven by Samuel Leon Bissell, age 40, of Mena. During the stop and a subsequent search of the vehicle, Deputies found approx. 113 grams of Methamphetamines, loaded syringes, scales, pills, approx.. $912.00 cash, and a loaded handgun.

Mass COVID Vaccine Clinic

Freedom Pharmacy, in conjunction with De Queen Health and Wellness Pharmacy, hosted and organized a mass vaccination clinic on Wednesday at the Polk County Fairgrounds. This event came together very quickly, according to organizer Melanie Wade of Freedom Pharmacy. 1000 extra doses of the precious Pfizer vaccine became available from De Queen Health and Wellness Clinic, and Freedom’s Brian Erickson and his team sprang into action quickly to set things up for the benefit of our community. Ten staff and volunteers from Freedom worked the event, with logistics and parking support provided by the Polk County Office of Emergency Management staff and the Mena Fire Department. Hat’s off to Freedom Pharmacy and all the volunteers for investing the time and resources so generously for the health and welfare of Polk County!

Schools In Polk County Began Receiving COVID Vaccinations

Covid vaccinations have begun in the Polk County schools. Educators at Shelby Rising City had the opportunity to be vaccinated on Friday, March 5. Four Corners Health Department was at the school and vaccinated 61 Shelby-Rising City School employees. Jeanne Kay (seated) was one who took advantage of the vaccination as Carol Manning of Four Corners looks over the paperwork with her. Cross County educators were vaccinated on Feb. 25. Osceola and High Plains schools are still to schedule a time for vaccinations as soon as the vaccine is available.
