Northern Indiana Man Arrested for Entering Capitol on Jan. 6

PLYMOUTH, Ind. (WISH) — A northern Indiana man faces federal charges for entering the Capitol during the Jan. 6 riot. Ian Horvath of Plymouth called the FBI in September 2021 to report that he was pictured in “wanted” photos on the FBI’s website. Horvath surrendered to authorities on Wednesday.

BERLIN (AP) — Officials in Bremen said Thursday that an iconic lighthouse at the German city’s port has tilted sideways and could soon topple over entirely. Public broadcaster Radio Bremen quoted the head of the water police, Uwe Old, saying nothing could be done to save the lighthouse.

Fatal crash in Nappanee sends vehicle airborne

NAPPANEE, Ind. - One man died following a two-vehicle crash on Market Street Monday morning, according to the Nappanee Police Department. At 9:20 a.m., a vehicle driven by Ross Boxell was traveling west in the 2400 block of E. Market Street when the vehicle began to drift left of center, according to reports.

The Marshall County Historical Society recently received a Heritage Support Grant through the Indiana Historical Society for upcoming projects. Heritage Support Grants serve Indiana’s local, county and regional historical societies, museums and sites, and recognizes the critical role these organizations play in upholding the state’s heritage. The grants fund projects that meet high-priority needs in the areas of collections stewardship, DEAI (Diversity, Equity, Access and Inclusion), sustainability, and planning.

Marshall County Jail repairs approved

PLUMOUTH, Ind. -- The Marshall County Commissioner's office has approved repairs for the county jail. Repairs include replacing copper lines that span from the Sheriff's Department to the Civil Defense building, and IT upgrades. The project will cost almost twenty-two thousand dollars.

Marshall County Sheriff’s Department Investigates Sunday Crash

One driver was transported to the hospital following a two-vehicle accident in Marshall County Sunday, August 14. Deputies from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and emergency responders were dispatched to the accident in the area of U.S. 31 and 19th Road. Police say Linda Handelsman of Bloomington told officers that she fell asleep while driving south on U.S. 31 in the left lane. Witnesses stated that the vehicle crossed through the median from the left southbound lanes and entered northbound traffic on U.S. 31, according to police. Thomas Szymanski, Jr. of Granger said he was unable to avoid the collision.

Marshall County Community Crossings Work Begins

Work on Community Crossings Matching Grant projects and additional paving projects has begun in several areas in Marshall County. Marshall County Highway Superintendent Jason Peters said once reclaiming is complete, the base will be laid down and then Milestone Contractors North crews will start on the surface. The order will be 12th Road from North Michigan to Maple, Pear from 14B to 18B, Thorn Road from State Road 17 to railroad tracks, Sycamore from 9th to U.S. 30, Union from 9C to 10B, Tamarack from U.S. 6 to County Line Road, and 1st from Tamarack to town limits.
