Hale County adds 125 cases, 2 more deaths in 3 days

Hale County has seen an increase of 125 new COVID-19 cases and an additional two deaths over the last three days. According to the Plainview/Hale County Health Department’s latest report, which reflects numbers as of Thursday at 5 p.m., 100 of the new cases have come in Plainview. Hale Center and Abernathy each added nine cases, Petersburg five and Cotton Center two.

Bobby Gipson was officially appointed as Plainview’s new fire chief during Tuesday night’s regularly scheduled city council meeting. Gipson, a 32-year veteran of the fire department, had been serving as the interim chief for the past seven months while the city looked for an official replacement for Timothy Gibson, who stepped down from the position earlier this year.

Sanchez discusses Plainview Collegiate HS, construction updates with Rotarians

Plainview Rotarians held their weekly meeting Tuesday. The program was presented by Dr. H.T. Sanchez, Plainview ISD Superintendent. Dr. Sanchez discussed the pilot program they have begun at the high school allowing freshman to begin taking college credits. The program consists of 80 students in each grade and students could have the potential to graduate high school with a college associates degree.

Reminder: City Hall to reopen Monday at new location on 5th Street

When the new business week begins Monday, Plainview’s City Hall will be in a different location. City Hall will open at 9 a.m. at 202 W. 5th Street. The new location will house almost all city departments including the Finance Office. Citizens who need to conduct business with the city can do so at the new 5th Street location.

2 new COVID-related deaths reported in Hale County

Two additional deaths and 102 new cases of COVID-19 were reported by the Plainview/Hale County Health Department in the latest report. According to the latest report, which reflects numbers through Monday at 5 p.m., Hale County has had 155 total virus-related deaths, up from 153 that were reported through last Thursday. One of the deaths occurred in Plainview and the other in Hale Center.
