At the 31st Annual Tip Colley Awards Banquet in Troy on May 16, former Troy State football All-American Eric Sloan will give a speech to those in attendance. The Tip Colley Award is presented annually to senior Christian athletes from high schools in Pike County “who have excelled in their walk of faith, academics, athletics and community service.” Male and female winners will be awarded $1,500 scholarships, while the runners-up will also receive $500 scholarships.

The “Thunder” will bring about a skirmish of historical significance here in the Pike County area this weekend. “Thunder on the Three Notch” at the Pioneer Museum of Alabama at 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday will depict the Creek and Indian War of 1836, which, in a large part, took place in Pike County, said Bob McLendon, a historical re-enactor.

The tournament, which was originally scheduled to begin on Friday, has been moved to Saturday due to the threat of inclement weather in the Montgomery area. ON YOUR SIDE CONSUMER ALERT – Brundidge Police Chief Sam Green is sending a warning to people of Pike County about a scam involving a fake prize check. Brundidge police say a woman told them she had received a check through the mail from Publisher’s Clearing House. The amount of the check was more than $6,000. Police say she was wary of the check because she had not submitted anything to Publisher’s Clearing House, and she turned the check over to them.

The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots are once again headed to the AISA Class AAA State Baseball Championship after sweeping Bessemer Academy in the semifinals on Wednesday at home. In game one, Pike dominated Bessemer by a score of 13-3. The Patriots earned 12 hits and three walks in 25 at bats in the win.
