Former Troy All-American will speak at Tip Colley Awards Banquet

At the 31st Annual Tip Colley Awards Banquet in Troy on May 16, former Troy State football All-American Eric Sloan will give a speech to those in attendance. The Tip Colley Award is presented annually to senior Christian athletes from high schools in Pike County “who have excelled in their walk of faith, academics, athletics and community service.” Male and female winners will be awarded $1,500 scholarships, while the runners-up will also receive $500 scholarships.

Pike Lib softball competes in state tournament

On Saturday, the Pike Liberal Arts Lady Patriots travelled to Montgomery to compete in the AISA Class AAA State Softball Tournament at Lagoon Park. The Charles Henderson, Pike County and Ariton High School softball teams will all be competing in the AHSAA South Regional Softball Tournament this week in Gulf Shores. The tournament, which was originally scheduled to begin on Friday, has been moved to Saturday due to the threat of inclement weather in the Montgomery area. Brundidge police say a woman told them she had received a check through the mail from Publisher’s Clearing House. The amount of the check was more than $6,000. Police say she was wary of the check because she had not submitted anything to Publisher’s Clearing House, and she turned the check over to them.

Pike Lib sweeps their way back to the state championship game

The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots are once again headed to the AISA Class AAA State Baseball Championship after sweeping Bessemer Academy in the semifinals on Wednesday at home. In game one, Pike dominated Bessemer by a score of 13-3. The Patriots earned 12 hits and three walks in 25 at bats in the win. Jayden Jordan had a big day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a triple, two RBIs and three runs. KC Bradford went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a double, as well. John Lott also had a two-run home run. Press Jefcoat pitched five innings and mowed down six batters, while giving up four hits and two earned runs.
