Prescribed fire burn in Southeast Missouri

Forest officials in Southeast Missouri conducted a prescribed fire on Thursday. Officials with Mark Twain National Forest said the Gotham prescribed fire operation covered approximately 585 acres, around 11 miles Southwest of Van Buren. Fire management staff say that the burn went well. Prescribed burns are used to maintain healthy forests by achieving resource benefits in the fire-adapted ecosystems. They also reduce the chance for devastating wildfires in the future.

Festival of Lights at Redman Creek

The annual Festival of Lights Auto Tour hosted at Redman Creek Campground East opened Friday and saw a high volume of traffic over the weekend. The event is held by the Wappapello Lake Area Association and will be open until Dec. 26. It is open from dusk to 9 p.m. There is no charge for admission, but donations are accepted for the WLAA. Camp areas are decorated by area businesses and organizations. Lesterville Junior Reese Gray Spikes Her Way Into Fall Dream Team

(Lesterville) Lesterville Junior and Outside Hitter Reese Gray capped off a phenomenal season by being selected to the 2021 Regional Radio Fall Dream Team by area coaches for Volleyball. Gray led her team to a 23-8-4 record and narrowly fell in the District Championship to South Iron in 5 sets. She led the way for the Bearcats with 648 kills this season with a stellar .311 hitting percentage. However, Gray sees these numbers as team statistics.

Top seeds roll into semifinals at Lady Dawg Classic

VAN BUREN — The Lady Dawg Classic got started Monday with a lot of offense for two higher seeds. Defending Class 2 state champion Ellington beat Koshkonong 90-8 before Van Buren was able to defend their home court with a 66-30 win over Twin Rivers as the Lady Dawgs took advantage of a fast start en route to the victory.
