Habitat for Humanity Tuscaloosa will fortify roofs for qualified homeowners

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Habitat For Humanity Tuscaloosa does more than just build new houses - it helps repair homes under certain circumstances, too. The agency is once again offering to help people who need a new roof. Habitat For Humanity Tuscaloosa wants to help people who qualify to get a fortified roof put on their home. This is a partnership between Habitat, the Alabama Department of Insurance and Strengthen Alabama Homes.

Board of Education Approves to Implement the Alabama Simulated Workplace Manual at the Career Center

LADOW-The Pickens County Board of Education held its monthly meeting on June 14, 2022. The meeting was called to order by Board Chairman Annie Jackson. After the invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance, the board approved the agenda on a motion from Sam Wiggins and a second from Dr. John Brandon. A motion was made by Wiggins and seconded by Brandon to approve the minutes, and they were approved. Payroll was approved on a motion from Frankie Spencer and a second from Gene Dawkins. A motion was made by Dawkins and seconded by Spencer to approve the financial report, and it was approved.

Powell beats out Hall for Pickens County Sheriff

Jordan Powell barely beat out incumbent Todd Hall in the Republican Pickens County Sheriff primary election. Powell won by 59 votes. There is no Democratic candidate on the ballot in the Nov. 8 General Election. Voter turnout in Pickens County was 26.88%.

Funeral services begin Monday evening for State Rep. Lynn Wright

PICKENS COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Funeral services begin Monday evening for state Representative Lynn Wright. Visitation is from five until eight at Skelton Funeral Home in Reform. The funeral service will be Tuesday at 2 PM at Mount Zion Baptist Church in the New Hope community of Lowndes County.

William Henry “Bill” Lang, Jr.

William “Bill” Henry Lang, Jr., 76, of Carrollton, AL, passed away on June 3, 2022 at his home. Funeral services were held at Reform First United Methodist Church in Reform, AL on Tuesday, June 7th at 1:00 pm with Reverend Joyce Snyder and Reverend Randy Raper officiating. A private family burial followed at Upper Cemetery in Pickensville, AL with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. The family received visitors one hour prior to the service at the church.

Aliceville hosts grand opening for Boys and Girls Club

On Monday, June 6, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., many people in Pickens County came out to witness the cutting of the new location of the opening for the Boys and Girls Club in Aliceville. The club will be located at the Alabama National Guard Armory. Prayer was done by Willie J Lavender followed by the pledge of allegiance given by the Cub Scouts Pack 205 led by Pastor Hugh Spencer. The ribbon was cut by Mayor Windham, Kim Turner of the Boys and Girls Club, and Mr. Spencer. What a great day for Pickens County and the town of Aliceville!!!
