Staff re-opens Stennis Lock, Bevill Lock remains closed

Update June 14 11:02 p.m. A barge is still stuck at the Stennis Lock and Dam in Lowndes County, but staff re-opened the lock Monday. Staff with the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway said they decided to open the lock, so cargo from the Bevill Lock and Dam in Pickens County, Alabama, can come through and free the Bevill pool, where a barge is stuck there also.

RADAR CHECK: We have quite a variety of weather across Alabama today; for many across the southwest counties the sky is sunny with temperatures around 90 degrees, but clusters of showers and storms continue to develop elsewhere, many of them producing heavy amounts of rain. Oliver said that she came to the meeting for clarification regarding her being part of the Pickens County Healthcare Authority. Several months ago before the hospital closed, Commissioner (Bobby) Ingram approached me and asked would I be interested in serving on that committee — that board — and I appreciate the recommendation and at that time, I told him I would be interested in learning more about the position,” Oliver said. “Shortly after that the hospital closed and I kind of put it out of my mind and didn’t think anymore about it. I won’t say I didn’t think anymore about it, but I didn’t look for anybody to contact me because Commissioner Ingram said someone would be contacting me for the details and to enlighten me on the position.”
