The Yankees’ character is in serious question

PHILADELPHIA — Do the Yankees have a glass jaw?. Do they get punched in the mouth, as the saying goes, and stay down for a while?. It seems fair to wonder whether that’s true after a meek, 7-0 loss to Joe Girardi’s Phillies on Sunday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park, the Yankees’ third straight defeat and 13th in 18 games, dropped them to fourth place in the AL East, a season-worst 8 ½ games behind the Rays.

Trio of walkoffs helps Phillies move above .500

On the surface, not much has changed in Philadelphia. The Phillies are hovering around .500 — the same place they’ve been for several years now. This past week provided a little more hope, however. The Phillies won three straight games in walkoff fashion, part of a four-game winning streak that...

The 'Steph Curry of baseball' has been carrying Phillies' offense

Joe Girardi made a change at the end of May to the top of the Phillies’ batting order, moving Andrew McCutchen from leadoff to sixth in Tampa Bay. It was the lowest McCutchen had hit in the order since signing with the Phillies before the 2019 season but the team needed a spark as he was slumping.

New York Yankee Recap: Bad to worse, Phillies shut out the Yankees 7-0

It was a partly cloudy day with temperatures in the upper 70’s as the New York Yankees took to the field at Citizens’ Bank Park in Philadelphia to take on the Phillies. It was the last game of a short two-game series. The Yankees lost the first game last evening in the 10th inning 8-7. Today Domingo German faced the Phillies’ Aaron Nola. It would be a game with neither Aaron Judge (spasms) or Giancarlo Stanton (DH) would be in the Yankee’s lineup. The result was a 7-0 shutout by the Phillies.

Yankees Baseball: 3 Things to Watch for this Week 6/14-6/20

After winning the first two games of the week against the Twins, the Yankees went on to lose three games in a row. This included a loss in Minnesota, then a two-game sweep by the Phillies. One positive to take from this is that the offense put up five or more runs in two of the three losses before being shut out on Sunday. If the offense and the pitching can start clicking at the same time, the Yankees can find themselves getting back on track this week. They’ll try to do so against the Toronto Blue Jays before hosting the Oakland A’s this weekend. Here are three things to watch for this week in Yankees baseball.

Yankees.com: Yankees Dominated By Phillies Ahead of Playing Actually Good Teams

Disclaimer: If you think this is the official website of the New York Yankees, you're an idiot. Go away. Brett Gardner squinted into a glowing computer screen on Sunday morning and characterized the inconsistency of the season as “a couple of steps forward, a couple of steps back.” That description outlines the uphill predicament that the Yankees face: after 65 games of wheel-spinning, they have hardly moved.

The state of the Washington Nationals

The Washington Nationals did what you are supposed to do against the best teams in baseball … this past week. They faced the best team in baseball, the San Francisco Giants, and the best team in the American League, the Tampa Bay Rays, for a combined six games this past week and went 3-3 against them. They say if you can play .500 or better against the best teams in baseball and dominate the bad teams you will make the playoffs. The issue is that the Nats entered that Tampa series with a 24-32 record.
