Switching PGA courses after mob rampage a success for all bar Trump

The violent scenes at the US Capitol last year led to the PGA taking its major tournament away from former president’s Bedminster course and awarding it to Southern Hills. The horrors associated with a violent mob rampaging around the US Capitol last year meant a subsequent decision relating to a golf tournament barely registered. Donald Trump’s Bedminster golf course had been announced as the 2022 US PGA Championship’s host venue in 2014. With Trump caught in the middle of the Capitol storm, the PGA of America changed its plan, and Southern Hills in Tulsa, Oklahoma was the beneficiary at short notice.

PGA Championship 2022: Only Oklahoma native at Southern Hills overcomes wind, bad luck to get to weekend

TULSA — It wasn't very long ago—2016, in fact—that Talor Gooch was on the brink of collapse at the second stage of the Qualifying School, pondering a future career at Best Buy. The Midwest City, Okla., native had no profile to speak of, and at TPC Craig Ranch in Texas, it took every ounce of resilience he had to recover from a poor start and fight his way to status. Success wasn't immediate, but Gooch, now 30, has gradually risen up the ranks of the game, and the view now looks very different than it did back then—35th in the world rankings, a PGA Tour win at last fall's RSM Classic, and a top-five at the Players Championship. Trace the path of that trajectory, and the next big expectation is contending at majors. Where better than Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, where he's so close to home he could drive, has gallery support as an Oklahoma State alum and where he's the only born-and-bred Oklahoman in the field?

PGA Championship: Big Names Miss Cut at Southern Hills, Did Tiger?

Some of the biggest golfing names in the World will be packing their bags and heading home after missing the cut at the 2022 PGA Championship. The second round of the 104th PGA Championship was very much a tale of two stories. Those in the early wave out on Friday morning had to deal with winds anywhere between 20-30 mph which led to challenging scoring conditions. Meanwhile, those who started later in the day were able to plot their way around a course that featured slow greens as they dealt with significantly less wind.

Tiger Woods is the star at Pga Championship

Tiger Woods the star, Phil Mickelson the great absent. And again: Scottie Scheffler to defend world leadership, Jon Rahm to return to the throne. Then Francesco Molinari, recovering and looking for a great result, and Jordan Spieth aiming to complete the Grand Slam. In Tulsa (United States), Oklahoma, everything is...

PGA Championship 2022: To nobody's surprise, John Daly is the most surprising man at Southern Hills

TULSA — There is less time than you might think, when you wake up at 5:45 a.m. to watch John Daly smash the metaphorical champagne bottle against the metaphorical hull of Southern Hills Country Club to kick off the 2022 PGA Championship, to consider the life choices that brought you to this moment. Call it 30 seconds to brush your teeth, 30 minutes of riding a shuttle through grimmest Tulsa, and then a bit of walking before—at roughly 6:56 a.m.—the man himself emerges onto the first tee to the heartiest shouts the gallery can muster at such an early hour:

Tiger Woods (+3) shoots 1-under 69 in second round to make cut at PGA Championship

TULSA, Okla. -- Tiger Woods will be around for the weekend at the 104th PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club. Needing to avoid a bogey down the stretch to stay on the right side of the cut line, the 15-time major champion did better than that, with a birdie on the 16th hole. He shot 1-under 69 in the second round on Friday, which pushed him to 3 over through 36 holes.
