Inmate escapes custody after working at Missouri State Fairgrounds

SEDALIA, Mo. (KMIZ) Pettis County Sheriff's Department is reporting an inmate has escaped custody after working at the Missouri State Fairgrounds. Sedalia Police Reports For June 22, 2021

This article is compiled from the Sedalia Police Department reports. Sunday morning, an SUV was stopped on South Osage Avenue at about Broadway Boulevard for driving without headlights and suspicion of impaired driving. After an investigation, the driver was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and Driving While Suspended. Sheleta Michelle Hernton, 40, of Sedalia, was transported to the Sedalia Police Department and then to the Pettis County Jail to be booked on the state charges pending release to a sober person.

James Chapman found several cards belonging to someone and brought them to the Police Department. Multiple attempts were made to find the property owner, but none were successful. More than a dozen canines were seized by authorities in Pettis County earlier this month. According to Pettis County Sheriff Brad Anders, on June 4, he, Pettis County deputies, Prosecuting Attorney Philip Sawyer and Sedalia Animal Control seized 16 dogs from an address at Route U and McVey Road. After a series of attacks on persons in and surrounding Covered Bridge Estates, Anders says he sought an order from the Pettis County Health Department via Prosecutor Sawyer for the seizure of the dogs believed to be originating from a single residence.
