One Injured in Motorcycle Crash on Highway 14

One person was injured in a motorcycle crash north of Knoxville this afternoon. At approximately 1:05 P.M., the Marion County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a single vehicle accident in the 1200 block of Highway 14. Marion County Sheriff’s deputies, along with the Knoxville Police Department, Knoxville City Rescue and Knoxville Township Fire Department, responded to the scene. When they arrived, they found a 19-year-old male from Milton, Iowa, unconscious. Initial investigation shows that the individual was riding with a group of other motorcycles when he lost control of his motorcycle. No other vehicles were involved in the accident. After receiving initial emergency care on scene, the male was transferred by helicopter to a hospital in Des Moines. The accident remains under investigation.

Motorcycle Accident North of Knoxville

A motorcycle accident north of Knoxville delayed traffic and resulted in a detour being put into place while rescue crews were on scene. Knoxville Township Rural Fire, Knoxville Fire and Rescue, the Knoxville Police Department, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, and possibly other agencies assisted. No other information has been released.

Knoxville gets a Silver in Soil Judging

Knoxville hosted a soil judging contest Wednesday where over 200 members from across the South Central District for FFA judged four pits and took a written class. Knoxville FFA Teacher Tiffany Johnston told KNIA/KRLS News, “We had six members compete for Knoxville and we ended up getting a silver rating.”

Junction 92 Project Approved by Board of Supervisors

The Marion County Board of Supervisors approved moving forward with the Junction 92 Shop Project for the Marion County Road Department. It has been an ongoing project since it was first discussed in 2004. A salt shed was built at the site in 2006. Construction costs are $8.5 million. It will be merging three county shops into one and there will be a large number of benefits when done. It will close the county shops for Clay Township, the central shop in Knoxville and Pella.

Homecoming Parade Route Changes

Knoxville schools will be dismissed at 2 p.m. Friday for the downtown parade which is set for 3 p.m. It should be noted the parade route has changed due to construction. The parade route will start at the corner of Roche and Robinson Streets. The route goes down Robinson to Fourth Street. It will turn left to Main, then left on Main, and turn right on Second Street. Buxton Park Flowers Available Next Saturday

Indianola residents who are looking for flowers and foliage this fall can help prepare Buxton Park for winter next Saturday. Pleasantville Volleyball Wins Home Tournament Saturday

Hosting the second annual Pleasantville Trojan Invitational Saturday, the volleyball team went 4-1 en route to winning the tournament. The Trojans swept all four opponents they beat in the best of three matches. Pleasantville’s four sweeps came over Southeast Warren (22-20, 21-11), Colfax-Mingo (21-13,21-17), Martensdale St. Mary’s (21-17, 21-8), and Saydel (21-13, 21-11). The Trojans one loss came to PCM 18-21, 19-21. Southeast Warren and PCM also went 4-1 and with no championship bracket to break the three-way tie, naming the champion came down to point differential. Pleasantville came out on top with the point differential of +56, with Southeast Warren in second with a +48, and PCM in third with a +33.

Advised to Get Flu Shots Early

Marion County Public Health Nurse Judi Van Hulzen advises people to get their flu shots earlier this year. Van Hulzen tells KNIA/KRLS News, “When I talk influenza I’m not talking about the 24 to 48 hour stomach bug that some people get and say I have the flu. That’s not the flu. Influenza is a serious upper respiratory virus that can lead to pneumonia and death and it does in several people.”
