Officers received a report of criminal mischief in the 1400 block of Evelyn Street. An estimated $8,000 damage was done to a utility pole.

Dallas County Sheriff’s Report September 30-October 3, 2022

Deputies responded to 13500 I Court in Perry for a motor vehicle accident in the parking lot. Maria Hernandez De Gonzale and Virginia Calderon from Perry were both backing out when Hernandez De Gonzale was about ready to pull ahead and Calderon did not see her in the center portion of the driveway and struck her vehicle. No injuries reported. Damage to Hernandez De Gonzale’s vehicle estimated at $1500.00 and $400.00 to Calderon.

Perry Football Loses Three More Starters Friday Night

Bondurant Farrar defeated Perry 70-0 in Class 4A football Friday night in Bondurant. The home Bluejays put the game away in the first quarter leading 29-0 despite playing without the state’s top running back, Titus Cram. The junior missed the game due to an injury. The game was played to a continuous clock in the second half and Bondurant hit the milestone 70 mark by throwing a late touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. Perry lost three starters in the contest with Gavin Hegstrom, Juan Hernandez and Kevin Collin all leaving the game with various injuries. Perry was already playing without quarterback Caden Heck, fullback/linebacker Keegan Synder, running back/cornerback Egan Leber and starting center Cael Isles.

2:15am: While on patrol an Officer located an open business door in the 100 block of North Chestnut Street. The Officer checked the property and secured the door. 2:48am: An Officer was dispatched to a business in the 100 block of West Washington Street for an alarm activation. The business was secure and the alarm was reset by staff.

Bondurant-Farrar overwhelms visiting Perry

BONDURANT, IA — A ranked Bondurant-Farrar team whipped Perry, 70-0, in a Class 4A District 5 meeting Friday. The host Bluejays (5-1, 1-1) were hardly tested in opening a 49-0 lead at the intermission. Reserves, even down to freshmen, played the second half for B-F, in which the home team still managed a 21-0 differential to set the final score.

Dallas Co Hospital Foundation to Host 5K Fundraiser

The Dallas County Hospital Foundation is hosting a fundraiser this weekend. The Muscle Up and Sock Hop Around 5K Walk/Run is this Saturday at the hospital in Perry. The event begins just after 9am with some opening remarks, followed by the kids walk/run at 9:15am and the adult walk/run will start at 9:30am. There will be a first place prizes for the top child finisher, along with the top adult male and female. During the race, participants can also enjoy 1970s themed stations. Participants are also encouraged to dress up for a costume contest, where the best individual and group costumes will also win prizes.

Ribbon Cutting Tomorrow at The Centennial

A new restaurant in Jefferson that has been open since July is officially having a ribbon cutting. The Centennial is owned by an all female organization of Why Not Us. The Restaurateur is Sarah Ostrander, who leads the kitchen and was recently named to the 40 Women to Watch list from the Iowa Restaurant Association. Jefferson Matters: A Main Street and Chamber Community Interim Director Matt Wetrich says the revival of the restaurant has already made its presence known.

One Injured Following Moped Vs Vehicle Crash in Perry Friday

A moped versus vehicle crash resulted in one injury Friday evening in Perry. According to the Perry Police Department, the incident happened at 4:54pm on Willis Avenue near the intersection with 10th Street. After the vehicles struck each other, the juvenile operator of the moped suffered non-life threatening injuries and the driver of the other vehicle was uninjured. The police department adds the crash was determined to be a no fault incident and there will not be citations issued.

Perry City Council to Approve Two Grant Applications

The Perry City Council will meet Monday night. The meeting will begin with a public hearing on an amendment to the zoning ordinance. They will then consider for approval a sixth pay application and a change order for the airport runway project, a second pay application for a downtown street and utility improvement project, as well as four property annexations. Additionally, the Council will consider for approval a resolution for an application to a downtown Perry upper story housing pilot program, and setting two public hearings for a Community Development Block Grant application for upper story conversion projects and a Comprehensive Neighborhood Planning grant. Finally, the Council will consider for approval amending an ordinance for electric franchise, allowing off-road utility vehicles within city limits and zoning regulations.

New Covid Booster Shot Available in Dallas County

The newest covid booster vaccine is now available and public health officials are urging people to get theirs. Dallas County Health Department Public Information Officer Ann Cochran says the new covid booster is for those 12 and older and who have had at least the primary vaccine. Cochran points out it doesn’t matter which vaccine you had from Pfizer, Moderna or Johnson and Johnson to get the bivalent booster, but you have to wait at least two months from a previous dose.

Halloween Costume Exchange Returns to Perry Library

With the calendar now in the month of October, one local library in Dallas County is hosting an annual event to swap out children’s costumes. Perry Children’s Librarian Suzanne Kestel says the Halloween Costume Exchange program is where families can donate gently used and outgrown costumes and exchange them for another costume that’s been donated. She points out each costume that a family donates will earn them one coupon, which can then be redeemed the week of October 24th for a “new to you” costume.
