Perry, Muskingum road closures begin Monday

JACKSONTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Transportation reports a portion of State Route 37 in Perry County will be closing Monday for approximately 21 days. The closure will take place near Township Road 320, east of State Route 13/93. Crews will be replacing a culvert in the construction zone.

Non-profits collaborate on pandemic-related programs

NEW LEXINGTON – This spring, two organizations teamed up to provide resources to Perry County residents. Hocking Athens Perry Community Action (HAPCAP) partnered with United Way of Muskingum, Perry, and Morgan counties to distribute over 100 COVID-19 wellness bags to county residents, according to a news release. The bags held an assortment of personal protective equipment, personal hygiene items, and tools to assist in coping with the ongoing pandemic. The bags also contained printed information on vaccination and self-care resources.

Perry County students reach out to overseas military personnel

Local students and a local bank joined forces recently to send postcards to people serving in the U.S. military overseas. Perry County DD Board launches new website for leadership program

NEW LEXINGTON – The Perry County Board of Developmental Disabilities (PCBDD) announced May 26 that it is launching a new website for one of its programs. PCBDD supports a variety of services that help provide meaningful outcomes for people with developmental disabilities. The Academy for Leadership Abilities® (ALA) is one of its program that builds foundational leadership and personal growth skills. Through this program, a leadership seed is planted to promote integration of all people of different backgrounds into their community, including those with developmental disabilities, according to a board news release.

Southeast District Baseball Coaches Association releases all-district squads

WAVERLY – The Southeast District Baseball Coaches Association released its all-district squads on May 27, and once again Perry County is well represented. In Division I/II, six Generals made the lists along with four Panthers. For Sheridan, Nate Johnson was the lone representative on the first team while Jesse Gillenwater, Chris Brison and Caden Sheridan all took second-team honors. To round it out for the Generals, Tyler Talbot and Ethan Malone were named honorable mention.
