McAlarnis, Daniels combine to pitch PCC past Powell County

HAZARD — Mason McAlarnis and Jacob Daniels combined to pitch Perry Central past Powell County 7-2 in a high school baseball regular season finale on Thursday, May 12. Powell County owned multiple leads before Perry Central separated itself late in the matchup. Facing a one-run deficit, Perry Central erupted for four runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning. In all, Perry Central scored six runs in its final two at-bats to pull away for the win.

Perry Central put the pressure on Pikeville early. The pressure kept building until the Lady Commodores walked away with a 10-0 win over the Lady Panthers last Thursday. Local high school students graduate

Over the weekend, seniors from Buckhorn School, Perry County Central High School and Hazard High School graduated. Buckhorn School celebrated their graduation on May 13, graduating approximately 32 seniors. PCCHS seniors graduated on May 14, with a graduating class of approximately 155. On May 15, HHS held their graduation, with a class of approximately 31 students.

Bridge replacement project to begin on Ky. 476 in Perry County

Construction on a bridge replacement project on Ky. 476 began Monday, May 16, and is expected to last a few months. Construction is taking place on the Ky. 476 bridge over Balls Fork. Built in 1926, the bridge is located at mile point 12.4 near the intersection of Ky. 1087/Balls Fork Road. The new bridge will be built in the same location without load restrictions and have a design life of at least 75 years, said KYTC officials.

WYMT was able to confirm that three people were injured in a crash involving two motorcycles on KY-15 just east of the Perry/Knott County line.
