Parents file class action lawsuit against Peoria-area school districts over COVID rules

Parents from eight Peoria-area school districts are participating in a lawsuit aimed at abolishing mask requirements in schools. The class action lawsuit against 140 school districts around Illinois was filed Wednesday at the Macoupin County courthouse in Carlinville. Parents from Dunlap, two school districts in Metamora, Germantown Hills, Eureka, Brimfield, Morton and Limestone in Bartonville are named as plaintiffs in the lawsuit.

Tri-county updates show 57 new cases of COVID-19, 2 additional deaths

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — The tri-county COVID-19 updates reported 57 new and probable cases in the area Thursday. Peoria County reported 29 new cases, bringing the county’s total to 27,081 with 403 deaths. In Tazewell County, there were 22 new cases for a total of 20,556 with 319 deaths. Finally, Woodford County reported six new cases, bringing the county’s total cases to 5,853 with 106 deaths.

Broken promises: With vacant retail, Pere Marquette hotel costs Peoria extra $1.8 million

PEORIA — The city of Peoria has poured an extra $1.8 million into the Pere Marquette project, an unplanned taxpayer bleeding that the City Council looks to stanch Tuesday. Much of the unexpected cost stems from a failure regarding a key component of the original project plans. New retail space was supposed to be leased to a restaurant and store. Sales tax from those ventures was to go toward retiring debt on a $33 million bond issuance by the city to help fund renovation and construction.
