Obit: Peter Josiah Tibbets

Peter Josiah Tibbets, of Pendleton, died at his home Oct. 16, 2021, in Pendleton. He was born in Portland, Oct. 22, 1991, the son of Albert Tibbets and Kara Hehn Tibbets. He attended Pendleton High School. He became assistant manager at Dollar Tree and held that position until he became employed at Keystone RV, where he was a supervisor. He enjoyed video games and time spent with family and friends.

Nancy Lee Bliss, a longtime beloved member of the Othello community, passed away from natural causes on Oct. 8, 2021. Known for her quick laugh and friendly nature, Nancy left us at the age of 92, still smiling warmly, regardless of her experiences with Alzheimer’s disease in her last years.

Obit: Fred Duane Davenport

Fred Duane Davenport, of Athena, passed away Oct. 14, 2021, at the age of 92. He was born in Ogden, Utah, to Samuel Allan and Chloe Lorlean Davenport. He was one of eight children. His family called him Duane. In his adult years, the military and friends called him Fred. His father worked as a section foreman for the railway in Tooele County, Utah, into Nevada. Duane’s stories of growing up on the Great Salt Lake Desert with his pet goat, and their adventures were the things legends are made of and will be remembered and retold for generations.

Esther Garcia Passes Away at 70

Esther R. Garcia of Hermiston passed away on Oct. 15, 2021 at the age of 70. She was born on Dec. 29, 1950 in Snyder, Texas to Nolberto and Josefa Ramirez Ruiz. As a child, Esther moved with her family to Pleasanton, Calif., where she grew up and attended school. She married Don Garcia in Livermore, Calif. on Aug. 16, 1975. The couple lived in Burley, Idaho for several years until moving to Hermiston in 1988. She had resided in Hermiston for the past 33 years.

We regretfully announce the passing of our mom, LaDonna “JoAnne” Hensley, who passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones Aug. 25, 2021 at the age of 80. JoAnne was born to John and Mary Wynn on Oct. 27, 1940, in the city of Pendleton, Oregon, and graduated from Echo High School, class of 1958. She worked in the service industry most of her life. She belonged to several fraternal organizations including the Woodland Washington Moose Lodge #2394, Newport Oregon Eagles #2817 and was a lifetime member of the Woodland Washington VFW Ladies Auxiliary #1927. She will be forever loved, forever remembered and her bright smile missed.

Thomas Kraft Sr. Passes Away at 77

Thomas J. Kraft Sr. of Hermiston passed away in Hermiston on Oct. 16, 2021 at the age of 77. He was born on Jan. 29, 1944 in Salina, Kan. to William and Eva Mae Hollen Kraft. Thomas moved with his family from Kansas to Idaho when he was 10 years old. He grew up and attended schools in Clayton and Rupert, Idaho. After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy for three years, where he obtained the rank of boiler technician petty officer third class. After his honorable discharge he moved to Forks, Wash., where he began his career as a log truck driver. He worked for I.T.T. Rayonier driving log trucks for over 20 years. He then bought his own truck and drove for himself for many years. He drove truck in many communities throughout Oregon and Washington until retiring in 2015.

Edie Bailey Passes Away at 50

Edie Louise Bailey of Hermiston passed away in Hermiston on Oct. 15, 2021 at the age of 50. She was born on July 28, 1971 in Salem to Eddie and Carolyn Vohland Cain. Edie lived in Salem until the age of 7, when she moved to Hermiston. She attended schools in Hermiston and graduated from Hermiston High School in the class of 1990. She later attended Blue Mountain Community College, where she completed her associate degree. In 1991, she began her career with the Hermiston School District, where she worked as a special needs assistant. She later transferred to the Umatilla ESD, where she continued her work as a special needs assistant until 2014.

Obit: Mary Alice Thompson

Mary Alice Thompson, 89, of Sumpter, Oregon, passed away Oct. 13, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born on Nov. 26, 1931, in Baker City, Oregon, to Green Hudspeth and Rachel Hanby Hudspeth. Mary’s early years were spent on the ranch owned by her father and uncles. The ranch is now known as the “Red Horse Ranch.” She enjoyed riding horses with her siblings and living in the mountains. Mary always had a cheerful greeting for the guests coming to stay at the ranch or to go on a guided hunt.
