The Douglas Police Department has charged five individuals with RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act) and various white-collar crimes. Georgia law says a person may be charged with RICO (O.C.G.A. 16-14-4) if they participate in an interrelated pattern of criminal activity motivated by or resulting in monetary gain or economic or physical threat or injury.

She was born in Lowndes County on December 23, 1938 to the late Val Alan Parrott, Sr. and Inez Golden Parrott. Mrs. Davis was a homemaker and a member of Wayfare Primitive Baptist Church. City receives $5.2 million in grants

Substantial regional planning efforts led by the City of Douglas, Southern Georgia Regional Commission (SGRC), and Douglas-Coffee County Economic Development Authority have enabled three grants to be awarded to the City of Douglas for Economic Development. The City of Douglas will receive approximately $5.2 million in grant funding for water and sewer expansions for economic development.

City offers incentives for Enterprise Zone areas

In accordance with the State of Georgia’s Enterprise Zone Employment Act of 1997, the City of Douglas has established five Enterprise Zones in the city to encourage revitalization and investment in the areas. Property owners, who apply for the incentive program and successfully achieve and maintain the criteria set by the program, may qualify for abatement of municipal ad valorem (property) taxes for a ten year period on business, commercial, and residential properties within the established Enterprise Zone geographic areas.

GBI makes arrest in theft investigation

The GBI Region 4 Douglas Office secured an arrest warrant for Angela Whittle Evans, age 47 of Ambrose, Georgia. Evans was arrested on one count of Felony Theft by Taking. Preliminary information indicates that Evans was working at American Truck Parts in Douglas, Coffee County, Ga. as the Office Manager. The company conducted an audit, and it was determined that funds were missing. According to the arrest warrant, the amount of missing money totaled $215,000. Evans was arrested and transported to the Coffee County Law Enforcement Center where she was processed into the jail.

Toombs County Deputy Involved in Vehicle Accident

A Toombs County deputy was involved in a motor vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon in Lyons while he was performing his assigned duties for the Magistrate Court. According to reports, Deputy Wallace Thompson was in his marked Toombs County Sheriff’s Office truck on Highway 280 near Vintage Soul. A black Toyota Camry was pulled to the right side of the road and on the same side in which Deputy Thompson was traveling and as he came upon the car, the driver, Sylvia Jowers of Ambrose, Georgia, apparently attempted to make a U-turn in front of the officer and Thompson was unable to avoid an impact. The crash caused the airbags to deploy and caused significant damage to the county’s vehicle.

Video: Live streamed video leads to aggravated assault charges

A violent video live streamed on social media led to the arrest of a Douglas man on aggravated assault charges. On Sunday, July 17, 2022, a video appeared on Facebook showing an individual identified as Jarmall “Chris Rock” Jackson choking a man in the front seat of a car. The victim was in the driver’s seat while Jackson was in the passenger’s seat. Whoever was streaming the incident was doing so from the back seat. Besides Jackson, the victim, and the person videoing, it isn’t clear how many others, if any at all, were also inside the car or standing outside.
