It has been a crazy 24 hours for the Pearl River baseball team, still winners bracket living after last night’s walk-off win over Hinds in the bottom of the 12th inning. The Wildcats took the diamond this afternoon with a chance to win the Region XXIII Tournament and punch their ticket to the NJCAA Division II World Series all in one fell swoop.

Saulters inducted into Hall of Fame

Pearl River Community College’s newest MCC Sports Hall of Fame inductee earned a rare “career double-double.” Larue Saulters is believed to be one of the first basketball players in Mississippi history to be selected to two all-state teams while leading PRCC’s “Cagers” to state championships in 1945 and again in ’47 after serving his country.

Nicholson woman found dead, murder warrant issued for boyfriend

After a Nicholson woman was found dead in her home on Saturday, an investigation into her death later determined she was the victim of murder. Maj. Marc Ogden with the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department said the case began on May 7, at about 1:45 p.m. when deputies were called to after someone found 33-year-old Candace Seals Kaleto unresponsive in her home, located at 33 Checker Mitchell Rd.

Each week the National Drought Mitigation Center (NDMC) analyzes precipitation trends, soil moisture, stream flow, and crop conditions. The result is a map showing broad-scale areas that are in drought, as well as regions that are abnormally dry and have some risk of moving into a drought. Pine Belt counties make decisions on state medical marijuana program

PINE BELT, Miss. (WDAM) - Tuesday was the last day for Mississippi cities and counties to opt out of the state’s medical marijuana program. On Monday, the Jones County Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 to opt out of the processing, sale and distribution of medical marijuana, however, cultivation will be permiss in the unincorporated areas of the county.

Supervisors approve road and bridge grant application requests

Pearl River County’s Board of Supervisors approved a motion to apply for grant funding from the emergency road and bridge repair fund. Les Dungan with Dungan Engineering made the request to the Board to submit three applications for ERBR funding. He said there is about $100 million worth of state money that the Legislature approved for the program, and he has already formed a list of local projects that might qualify.

It’s just another mark on the Fahrenheit scale used by humans to measure temperature.
