Commission violates its new land use plan to rezone for Ford dealership

Rebuffing the County’s Planning & Zoning staff’s and commission’s recommendation to deny the proposed rezoning, the Fayette County Commission voted three-to-two to rezone the corner of South Sandy Creek Road and Ga. Highway 54 from R-70 Residential to Commercial to allow Fayetteville Ford to relocate its dealership there.

Police search for woman who left adult care facility

UNION CITY, Ga. - Union City police said a missing 63-year-old woman, last seen walking away from an adult care center, might be walking with an unknown man. Police said Carol Ivey was seen at around 2 p.m. on Saturday walking north on State Route 14 from Wells Springs Adult Care Center.

Trafficking suspects charged in 2nd case with another teen victim

National Weather Service to release extra weather balloons ahead of tropical threat

A Newnan man is in the Coweta County Jail on charges of felony kidnapping following a domestic incident on Sunday. Coweta County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested William Aaron Pogue, 30, on charges of felony kidnapping after deputies arrived at the Motel 6 on Herring Road in reference to a report of a man and woman physically fighting in the motel parking lot.

Fire rips through bakery built more than 100 years ago in Coweta County

COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — A large fire engulfed a bakery and market between Newnan and Peachtree City Wednesday evening completely destroying its historic structure. Firefighters responded on-scene to Heirloom Market Co. and Bakeshop in Sharpsburg after the popular bakery went up in flames. Those that work inside the building called 911 to report a fire just after 6 p.m., but fortunately everyone was able to get out safely with no injuries, according to Coweta County Fire Rescue.
