Library’s History Resources To Be Topic of Historical Society Guest Speaker

John Paulding Historical Society will host a general meeting and program at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 24. The meeting is open to all. The guest speaker for the evening will be Kelly Taylor from Paulding County Carnegie Library. She will present information about the library’s impressive resources for local history and genealogy research, including vertical files, special collections, obituaries and access to databases.

Vantage Career Center Cap Signing

On May 6th, Vantage students celebrated In-Demand Jobs Week by participating in the 4th Annual Career Advanced Placement (CAP) Signing Day. The event marks the beginning of students’ professional careers, as both they and their employers—often those that have worked for or interned at throughout their education—sign the necessary documents to accept them as proper employees after graduation from Vantage Career Center.

Congratulations 2022 Paulding County School Graduates!

KENNADI RECKER has been named 2022 Valedictorian of Antwerp High School. Her parents are Dennis and Monica Recker and the late Lisa Recker. After graduation, she plans to attend Bowling Green State University and major in Nursing. During high school Recker participated in National Honor Society, Student Council, basketball and Track. She was awarded the BGSU Freshman Scholarship, was on honor roll, Top Student in Biology, and Top Student in World History. Outside of school, Recker is involved with Discipleship at the Catholic Church.

Emergency Food and Shelter Funds Available

Paulding County Retired Teachers Association Awards $1800 in Scholarships

The Paulding County Retired Teachers Association recently awarded $200 scholarships to nine Paulding County high school seniors planning to enter the field of education. The recipients from Paulding High School were Brooke-lyn Ankney and Ella Cook. Brooke-lyn is the daughter of Wendy Groves and Randy Ankney. She plans to attend Owens Community College on the transfer path to Bowling Green State University where she will major in Primary Education. Ella, the daughter of Allen and Casey Cook, plans to attend Ohio Northern University to major in Early Childhood Education.

Stoller Named MY102.7 Scholarship Winner

Abbie Stoller, a senior at Wayne Trace High School, recently received a $500 scholarship from MY102.7 FM. The radio station awards one scholarship per graduating class at each of Paulding County’s three high schools and Vantage Career Center. Stoller plans to use the scholarship at the University of Toledo, where she will study nursing.

Paulding County Land Bank Property Success

The Paulding County Land Revitalization Committee (commonly called Land Bank) was invited to an open house this week. Jake Gentz, owner of Jake Places, LLC recently completed a 1300 square foot home at 848 West Perry Street. The three-bedroom, two bath home, was built on land bank property that was purchased in 2021 through a sealed bid process.

Paulding County Students’ Think-a-Thon

This past week 5th and 6th grade students from Antwerp, Oakwood, Paulding, WT Grover Hill, and WT Payne Elementary participated in the GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) Think-a-Thon hosted by the 6th grade students at WT Grover Hill Elementary. They competed in both indoor and outdoor thinking stations that incorporated problem solving, plexors, analogies, and word play. They wrapped up their day with lunch and a friendly game of kickball. As the back of our shirts say, “You really made your brain sweat!”
