Parkland Crime Update: Missing Child and Burglaries

Through our joint effort with the Broward Sheriff’s Office to share updates with residents, this is a summary of crimes and other Parkland incidents through June 20, 2022. On 04/04/22, a female victim was involved in a physical altercation with her husband. The victim sustained injuries as a result of the incident.

6 Marjory Stoneman Douglas Softball Players Receive Conference Awards

After a remarkable season that saw the Marjory Stoneman Douglas softball team win a District Championship, six of its players were honored with Conference Awards. Sophomore Victoria Diaz had a year to remember for the Eagles, making the First Team All-Conference Team. In 76 at-bats this season, she hit .357 and drove in 11 RBIs. She also had three doubles and scored 22 runs. Diaz also went 2-0 on the mound, helping the Eagles win 16 games this season.

Citizens Insurance Faces Hefty Legal Costs Amid Claims Disputes

The state-backed Citizens Property Insurance Corp. could be on a path to spend $100 million this year on attorneys to defend an increasing number of lawsuits. The Citizens Board of Governors in December approved spending $50 million on outside attorneys needed to handle thousands of lawsuits in claims disputes. A Citizens committee on Thursday recommended approval of another $50 million, a proposal that the board likely will consider during a July 13 meeting.

Parkland Teen Night: Laser Tag, Cotton Candy, and Games

Parkland Teen Nights are back with the Summer Bash Laser Tag event. Kids ages 12 to 15 are invited for an evening of fun, music, and cotton candy. Held on Friday, June 24, from 6.30 to 8.30 p.m. at the P-REC Gymnasium, the event will include a Game Truck with X-Box and other consoles for the kids to play. Tickets are $3 for residents and $5 for non-residents.
