ZAKK WYLDE Doesn't Really Get The Idea Of Retiring From Music

Whether you know Zakk Wylde from his solo albums and Black Label Society, or his stuff with Ozzy Osbourne, you know he's a live wire — someone impossible to imagine with his feet up, with tea and biscuits and all that, living the retired life with the wild glory days of rock and roll long in his windshield. It's just not possible. Inconceivable, really. That's just not who he is. Quite simply, he just wasn't made that way.

Zakk Wylde Shares Honest Memories of Lemmy: “He Was Just Skin and Bones at That Point…”

For a certain type of rock and metal fan, Lemmy was THE rock star. Ozzy was cool, and David Lee Roth seemed like a lot of fun, but the frontman of Motörhead was in it to win it, dying in the service of making zaftig people dance like complete maniacs. Now, Ozzy Osbourne guitarist and Black Label Society frontman Zakk Wylde has offered up some memories of Lemmy — some of which are heartwarming, but some of which are a little jarring.

Zakk Wylde: “My doctor said I’d need a liver transplant”

Black Label Society mainman Zakk Wylde on boozing with Ozzy and Lemmy, hanging out with Elton John and why Dimebag Darrell was “Santa with a pink beard”. Zakk Wylde was pumping gas in New Jersey when he got the call to join Ozzy Osbourne’s band. Thirty-five years later and Zakk’s an icon in his own right – a legendary guitar god who helped pen some of Ozzy’s most acclaimed records (No More Tears, anyone?) while also forging a lucrative side-hustle as the singer, guitarist and all-round creative tour de force behind Black Label Society.

Zakk Wylde: “From Paul Kossoff to David Gilmour, everyone’s personality is in their phrasing”

He plays heavy with Black Label Society and Ozzy, but Zakk Wylde is inspired by the emotion in blues and “pentatonic insanity” of jazz fusion. The world may still feel like it’s in a state of pause, but that’s not enough to stop Zakk Wylde from doing what he does best. He ended 2021 out on the road with Black Label Society, while teasing singles from the band’s 11th studio album Doom Crew Inc. – another masterclass in blues-based metal and pentatonic shred.

Zakk Wylde Remembers Dimebag: “Like Santa Claus with a Pink Beard”

Today marks the 30th anniversary of the release of Pantera‘s Vulgar Display of Power, an album that I once wrote saved American metal. And while today is a great day to honor Pantera’s legacy and the impact that the record had on metal, it’s also a day in which many will remember “Dimebag” Darrell Abbot, Pantera’s virtuosic mischief-god guitarist who in many ways embodied the band’s spirit and was tragically murdered in 2004. Now, Ozzy guitarist and Darrell’s longtime friend Zakk Wylde has said something about Dime that we can only wish would be someday used to describe us.

Zakk Wylde discusses the possibility of Wylde Audio producing the next line of Dimebag Darrell signature guitars

Back in August, the estate of late Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell (Darrell Abbot) announced that it was suing Dean Guitars. Rita Haney – Abbot's longtime girlfriend and the trustee of his estate – announced the estate's lawsuit in an Instagram post, in which she also detailed why she chose to end Dean's relationship with the legendary electric guitar player, which initially ran from 1990 – 1994 before being re-established in 2004, shortly before Abbot's tragic murder at a Columbus, Ohio nightclub.

Zakk Wylde Announces His First Podcast, Gives It a Really Silly Name

These days, if you’re a major metal frontman, it’s important that you have a podcast. Without a podcast, no one will know your donkey-brained opinions about music and politics, or who you’re good enough friends with to have on your show multiple times. Now, another one of metal’s most famous frontmen has bitten the bullet and gotten behind the mic in a tiny room of his house: Ozzy guitarist and Black Label Society mainman Zakk Wylde.

Zakk Wylde reflects on 12 musical milestones from a career spanning more than three decades

Zakk Wylde can recall once being interviewed alongside Buddy Guy – the two appeared on the 2016 Experience Hendrix tour together – when somebody asked the blues legend a question. “They go, ‘Buddy, what is it about Zakk’s playing that you like?’” Wylde lets out a huge laugh. “And I said, ‘I can answer that for ya – he likes the space in between the songs!’”
