Yetide Badaki's next role will be as Queen Nzinga. Starz has announced that a drama series about the African Warrior Queen is currently being developed. The series will take place in 17th century Angola. It is described as being based on the true story of Nzinga's transformation from an innocent princess into a fearless warrior queen, who rages a ferocious 40-year guerrilla war against the kingdom's formidable enemies, and the cruel subjugation of her people by Portuguese slavers. Nzinga would come to sacrifice everything to defend her people's dignity, liberty, and freedom. Badaki's previous work includes playing Bilquis in Starz's American Gods and ChiChi in NBC's This Is Us. In the press release, Badaki said:

50 Cent, Spartacus creator Steven S. DeKnight and Mo Abudu, who runs Nigerian media company EbonyLife, are teaming on the potential series led by American Gods alum Badaki. "Queen Nzinga takes place in 17th century Angola and follows her transformation from an innocent princess into a fearless warrior queen who rages a ferocious 40-year guerrilla war against the kingdom’s formidable enemies, and the cruel subjugation of her people by Portuguese slavers," according to Deadline. STARZ announced today it is in development on “Queen Nzinga” executive produced by Yetide Badaki (“Army Of The Dead: Lost Vegas,” “American Gods”), Mo Abudu (Òlòtūré, The Royal Hibiscus Hotel), Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson (“Power” Universe, “BMF”) and Steven S. DeKnight (“Spartacus,” “Daredevil”). The scripted drama series will chronicle the amazing life of the famed African Warrior Queen to be played by Badaki.

The Giannis Antetokounmpo movie at Disney is taking shape, with Variety learning exclusively that the film has found three of its leads. Newcomer Uche Agada will star as the NBA great in the film, which is titled “Greek Freak” in honor of the nickname Antetokounmpo earned for his otherworldly basketball skills. In addition, Yetide Badaki is joining the film as Vera, Antetokounmpo’s mother, while Dayo Okeniyi will play Charles, his father.
