The Chicago White Sox have been scoring a lot of runs lately. That is a sentence that fans have been begging to hear since mid-April. A big reason for that has been the play of Yasmani Grandal. Following a rough start, he has been really good at the plate over the last few games.
Grandal went 1-for-4 with a walk and two RBI on Sunday against the Rays. Grandal has shown very few signs of breaking out of a season-long slump, and his RBI on Sunday was his first in his last nine starts. In that span, he had collected just two hits in 33 at-bats. Overall, Grandal is hitting .163/.274/.213 across 186 plate appearances.
Grandal is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays. Even though Grandal served as the White Sox's designated hitter the past two games rather than starting behind the plate, he'll still receive a maintenance day Wednesday. Grandal's move to the bench may also have something to do with his ongoing slump at the plate; over his last six games, he's gone 1-for-24 with 11 strikeouts and four walks.
Grandal isn't starting Wednesday against the Red Sox. Grandal will get a chance to reset after he went 0-for-9 with five strikeouts over the last two games. Reese McGuire is starting behind the dish and batting eighth.
