Red Sox's Yacksel Rios: Earns win despite walking two

Rios (3-0) earned the win in relief Friday against the Yankees after tossing two scoreless innings, walking two and striking out one. Rios pitched the fifth and sixth innings, and while he allowed two baserunners, he didn't suffer any damage and recorded the fifth scoreless outing over his last six appearances. The right-hander gave up runs in each of his first three outings of the season, but he settled down afterwards and now has allowed just six runs over his last 14.2 innings of work. The right-hander owns a 4.58 ERA on the season, but he seems to be trending in the right direction.

Red Sox's Yacksel Rios: Earns win Tuesday

Rios (2-0) tossed 1.2 scoreless innings while allowing just a walk and striking out a batter as he secured a win over the Royals on Tuesday. Rios entered the game with one out in the fifth after Nick Pivetta allowed the Royals to re-take the lead on a two-run homer by Ryan O'Hearn. He recorded an easy five outs and was awarded the win after the Red Sox got the lead back in the bottom half of the sixth. The 28-year-old owns a 2.70 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 7:6 K:BB over 6.2 innings since being acquired June 14.

Red Sox call up Yacksel Ríos, option Michael Chavis to Worcester

The Red Sox made a little bit of a surprising move early this week, calling up Michael Chavis to the active roster to take the spot of Ryan Weber. It wasn’t surprising that Weber was designated for assignment, but rather that they added a position player instead of a fresh arm for the bullpen. Well, as it turns out, it wasn’t for long. Earlier on Monday, the Red Sox made a roster move to designate Ryan Weber for assignment and add Michael Chavis to the active roster. As a result, the Red Sox were left with an open 40-man spot, but it wasn’t going to be left open very long at all. His stay with Triple-A Tacoma wound up being a short one, as now he's set to join the big club. The right-hander posted a 0.66 ERA and 0.76 WHIP in 13.2 innings with Triple-A Durham and he'll look to carry that success over to the big leagues.
