Iowa State defensive end Will McDonald to return to Iowa State in 2022

Iowa State defensive end Will McDonald will pass up the opportunity to enter the 2022 NFL Draft and will return to Iowa State for his senior season. McDonald — who is already Iowa State’s all-time sacks leader — can potentially break the Big 12 sack record that was set by Von Miller. Entering Iowa State’s bowl game later this month, McDonald will have 29 career sacks to his name. He’ll need four sacks to match Miller’s record of 33.

Matt Campbell compares an ISU signee's athleticism to that of Will McDonald

Whenever the time comes, Will McDonald will leave Iowa State as the program's all-time sack leader and as one of, if not the best defensive linemen to ever come through the program. McDonald has wreaked havoc on college football since he became a contributor three seasons ago. He'll enter Iowa State's bowl game with 85 tackles and 33 sacks to his name. And although it's unfair to expect any player to match McDonald's level of production, Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell does see similarities between McDonald and new signee Ikenna Ezeogu.
