Cowboys fans should have faith in Will McClay in 2022 given Dallas’ likely strategy

Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good. And last year the Dallas Cowboys got very lucky during the 2021 NFL draft. Jaycee Horn and Patrick Surtain II were selected with two consecutive picks before Dallas’ tenth overall selection. With two players the Cowboys presumably wanted now off the board, they traded back to twelfth and let Micah Parsons fall into their lap. Hats off to Will McClay for making that pick when the general consensus was hesitant on Parsons.

Cowboys Retain Key Executive Will McClay on New Contract

The Dallas Cowboys have already made one of their biggest moves of 2022, keeping Will McClay on staff as Vice President of Player Personnel with a new contract. With at least three teams looking for new General Managers this offseason, getting McClay off the board is a huge win for Dallas.

Any team hoping to get a shot at wooing away Will McClay from the Dallas Cowboys is out of luck, not that any had a very real shot at doing so anyway. With the NFL having seen the first Monday following the regular season feature a list of head coach and general manager firings (and one retirement), those very clubs have now pressed their right foot to the floor in requesting interviews for capable minds, and that thrust McClay's name to the forefront of the conversation -- as is usually the case for the very talented and highly coveted VP of player personnel in Dallas.
