Warlley Alves will be forced out of action for several months after injuring his right knee earlier this year. Alves, who was scheduled to face Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 270 on Jan. 22, told MMA Fighting he tore his ACL in his right knee on Jan. 4 — the same day as his 31st birthday — and had surgery four days later in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

After UFC veteran Warlley Alves withdrew from his fight at UFC 270, UFC’s Jack Della Maddalena who earned his contract on Dana White’s Contender Series was left without an opponent. Now stepping in on short-notice replacing Alves is the most recent UFC signing, Pete Rodriguez. The news was first reported by MMAFighting.

Jack Della Maddalena will still make his octagon debut at the UFC’s first pay-per-view event of 2022. Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that Della Maddalena (10-2) will now face fellow newcomer Pete Rodriguez at UFC 270. The event takes place Jan. 22 at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

Yet another Brazilian has been forced out of the UFC 270 card due to an undisclosed injury. After women’s flyweight Viviane Araujo left the event, The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3 champion Warlley Alves followed the same path, MMA Junkie reports. For now, the promotion will look for a short-notice replacement to take on newcomer Jack Della Maddalena.
