Letters to the Editor - Griddy Energy, the Walter Cronkite approach to news, casinos in Texas, the ‘heartbeat’ bill

Re: “Griddy customers off the hook — Paxton wipes out $29.1 million in storm electric charges, works on ‘relief ' for those who’ve paid,” Wednesday news story. Let me see if I’ve got this right. The gamblers, yes, gamblers, who signed up with the unregulated adjustable market rate electricity supplier, Griddy Energy, are now being bailed out by Attorney General Ken Paxton, one of the Republicans who supported the deregulation of Texas utilities in SB 7 that passed in January of 2002. And what about the rest of us Texas citizens who are tied to energy suppliers due to the municipalities in which we live? Going to pay our February elevated utility bills, as well? Waiting with bated breath for the update!

On February 27, 1968, CBS News anchorman Walter Cronkite filed this editorial on the Vietnam War, in which he famously declared that the conflict was destined to end not in victory, but in a stalemate. This was a turning point for public support for the war effort, as Cronkite had a repuation as "the most trusted man in America," and his opinion carried a great deal of weight with viewers. President Lyndon Johnson was reported to have said "if I've lost Cronkite, I've lost Middle America."

The PGA Championship Has Dumped Donald Trump in a Walter Cronkite Moment

Donald Trump is heading to a bogey/bogey/double-bogey finish. The president lost the November election, failed to prove fraud caused his demise, and is being blamed for the siege of the U.S. Capitol. Having long ago alienated LeBron James and Colin Kaepernick, the president has now lost the support of the golf world. The 2022 PGA Championship has been stripped from one of his clubs.
