Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Surrenders five runs in no-decision

Buehler registered a no-decision during Friday's 12-10 loss against the Phillies, allowing five runs on nine hits and one walk with three strikeouts in five innings. Buehler let two runs across in the second inning and three more in the fourth, all of them coming with two outs. The five runs surrendered nearly matches his total of seven through the 27-year-old's first 24.2 innings and caused his ERA to spike nearly one full run from 1.96 to 2.81. Additionally, Buehler has only struck out more than six batters once in seven starts after doing so 15 times last season. He's projected to start again early next week against Arizona.

Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Falls just shy of quality start

Buehler pitched 5.2 innings against Cincinnati on Thursday, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four. He didn't factor in the decision. Buehler wasn't at his sharpest in the Dodgers' home opener, throwing only 60 of 98 pitches for strikes and walking three batters. However, he kept the Reds off the scoreboard for five innings and needed one more out to notch his first quality start of the campaign before Aristides Aquino ended his night with a two-out, two-run homer in the sixth. Buehler has been fine through his first two starts, allowing four runs and registering a 9:5 K:BB across 10 frames. He was commonly drafted as a top-five pitcher in fantasy leagues, however, so his managers would love to get more from him, especially in terms of strikeouts. Buehler's next start is lined up to come at home against Atlanta on Tuesday.

Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Named Opening Day starter

Buehler was named the Dodgers' Opening Day starter Thursday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. The torch has officially been passed at Dodger Stadium. For the first time since 2010, a healthy Clayton Kershaw will watch from the dugout on Opening Day. (Kershaw wasn't the team's Opening Day starter in 2019 or 2020 but was on the injured list both times.) The honor is a deserved one for Buehler, who's coming off a season in which he posted a career-best 2.47 ERA, a mark that beat Kershaw by over a run. Buehler will take on the Rockies in Coors Field to kick off the season on April 8 and then will either face the Twins in Minnesota or the Reds at home the following week, depending on whether the Dodgers use their April 11 off day to skip a starter or give their pitchers an extra day of rest.

Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Tabbed for NLDS Game 1

Buehler will start Game 1 of the National League Division Series at San Francisco on Friday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. Max Scherzer started the NL Wild Card Game against the Cardinals on Wednesday, so Buehler will take the mound in the series opener against the Giants now that the Dodgers have advanced to the NLDS. Buehler put together a dominant 2021 campaign with a 2.47 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 212:52 K:BB over 207.2 innings (33 starts) while compiling a 16-4 record. Julio Urias is poised to pitch in Game 2 for Los Angeles on Saturday.

Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Rough outing against Colorado

Buehler allowed five earned runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out two across 3.2 innings Wednesday against the Rockies. He did not factor into the decision. Buehler allowed five consecutive hits to begin the fourth inning and was eventually pulled from the game having allowed all five earned runs in the frame. While Buehler has largely remained effective, this performance comes just three turns through the rotation after he allowed six earned runs across three innings to San Francisco. Notably, Buehler also has only 13 strikeouts across 19.2 frames in four September starts. Even so, he has maintained a stellar 2.58 ERA with a 196:49 K:BB across 195.2 innings on the season.

Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Falls to Reds on Friday

Buehler (14-4) took the loss against Cincinnati on Friday, pitching six innings and allowing three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five. Though the right-hander earned his MLB-leading 26th quality start, he was outdueled by opposing starter Luis Castillo and didn't appear to have his best stuff. Buehler held the Reds scoreless for four frames but was touched up for a run in the fifth and two in the sixth before departing. His numbers on the campaign still hold up to the best hurlers in the league -- Buehler has a 2.39 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 194:49 K:BB across 192 innings -- but he has faded a bit of late, posting a 6.19 ERA and losing twice in three September starts. He'll look to get back on track next week in a start against Colorado.
